Living Black host Karla Grant has gained unprecedented access to the Dalai Lama during his historic first visit to the Top End. Karla is the first Australian Indigenous journalist to interview His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama, on Australian television.

Karla discusses with the Dalai Lama the plight of the Tibetan people and the comparisons and similarities shared with Indigenous Australians. She delves into issues facing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people of this nation including colonisation, dispossession, and loss of language and culture. Karla speaks with the Dalai Lama on how the Indigenous people of Australia can move forward to a more positive future to achieve greater harmony.

In this special Karla interviews Michael Danby MP, Mr Penpa Tsering, Speaker of the Tibetan-Parliament-in Exile and the Dalai Lama’s sister Jetsun Pema. Karla also speaks with Indigenous Australians who have chosen the Buddhist faith as a way of life, including Indigenous Buddhist Warren Jones to gain their insight.
