Ricky Ponting will commentate the Big Bash League for Network TEN.
The former Australian Test and One Day cricket captain will join TEN after he retires from the game in October.
Hamish McLennan, said: “We are honoured that Ricky has agreed to join our new cricket commentary team.
“We are committed to making the KFC T20 Big Bash League a major television event for Ten and Cricket Australia. That is why we have recruited one of Australia’s most successful and respected cricketers of all
time.”
Ponting said: “I’m very excited to be joining Network TEN and being part of their commentary team this summer. I can’t wait for it all to start in December.”
TEN’s Head of Sport, David Barham, added: “I have long admired Ricky’s remarkable contribution to our country through cricket. His sportsmanship, professionalism, leadership and reputation are second to none.
“We are thrilled to have Ricky join our KFC T20 Big Bash League commentary team.”
The KFC T20 Big Bash League will air on TEN from December 2013.

Hopefully he will slow his speech down once he starts commentating. I’ve always had trouble understanding him as he talks way too fast. Good signing for Ten, though.
Nine has sign Michael Hussey and Warne for the 2013 Summer of Cricket
@William – Fox released all their commentators from contract bar Brendon Julian. You’d imagine Ten will pick up 1 or 2. There aren’t too many capable and qualified cricket commentators just sitting around the place. I’m guessing Greg Blewett, and maybe Fleming or Waugh. Border is probably too old for Ten.
I thought Ricky retired from all forms of cricket 🙂
@cronker
300,000 watched it on Fox Sports and it will likely get 750,000 which is superb by Ten’s standard
No one is going to watch Big Bash anyway.
@JoeBloggs
I know Fox doesn’t have the rights, all Im saying is that David Bahram won’t use Fox Sports commentary at all
William:
Ten can’t use Fox Sports commentary because Fox aren’t covering it anymore.
@catherine
Nine just simply don’t have the money after their record $500million dollars for the TV rights. Ten just simply had money in the bag available for Ricky
Good move by 10. I reckon 9 were thinking they would have him for the test matches especially.
@kimbeth
I think Michael Hussey is available to Channel 10.
If Michael Hussey is available ch10 should sign him too.
David it is a 2 two year deal with TEN and I think David Bahram said they won’t use Fox Sports commentary as they will put their own commentary together just like RU
Good choice – by both parties.
