Seal apologises for Twitter “rant” (but not for his sheer stupidity)

Seal goes into bat for his little buddy and ends up upstaging him altogether.

2013-06-12_1829Seal explodes, Seal blows up, Seal goes crazy, Seal pissed …take your pick of the bizarre headlines yesterday as The Voice coach goes into bat for his little buddy and ends up upstaging him altogether.

Seal lashed out via Twitter after the discovery of a small amount of marijuana in Joel Madden’s hotel saw him become front page news yesterday.

Seal let fly at both The Star casino, where Madden had been staying, and “trash media.” But many took it as a dig at the country as a whole, causing the singer to delete the tweets and apologise for his “rant.”

“…Shame one (sic) the Star…you ask him to meet n greet a cancer victim in your hotel then send police to his room?? Nice very classy..keep it up Judas. Im done here. can’t wait to go home,” he originally tweeted.

“It’s a shame. I for one will not stand by and watch you attempt to destroy my Brother, you gun one you gun us all! Shame one The Star,”

“Because it’s just a matter of time before you gun us all down.”

“Way to respect a guest in your country trash media, way to make us feel welcome. Keep it up… sure we’ll be back next year. And yes, I say we.”

But as his outburst gained traction he began to backtrack:

“I was NOT slamming Australia, I was and still am slamming the TRASH MEDIA! I stand by my Bro and WILL NOT BE BOUGHT!”

Later he deleted the the tweets only leaving a trail of evidence:

“I want to apologise for my rant earlier. Joel is one of my best friends and I was really hurting for him.

“It’s been almost 11 weeks away from my kids and me saying “I can’t wait to go home” was me missing being home with them.”

But media had also reported yesterday that he had spent Tuesday with his kids at Featherdale Wildlife Park near Blacktown, which didn’t support his case particularly well…

A contrite Joel Madden also made statements via Tumblr:

“Sunday while I was at work, a hotel employee found a small amount of marijuana in my hotel room,” Madden said.

“The police were called and responded.

“Sydney is my adopted home and I appreciate the way the NSW police handled the situation.

“They have informed me there will be no charges.

“I hope this didn’t cause too much drama for everyone.”

2013-06-12_2317He also fronted on Nine News to apologise.

“That’s never the reason I want to be on the front page of any news,” he said.

“But I take full responsibility.”

Madden said he wanted to apologise to anyone he had let down, adding: “It was never my intention to disappoint people.”

But the news has already trickled through to the US including on Yahoo, EW.com, New York Daily News, TMZ, ABC News, US Magazine, Perez Hilton, The Inquisitr and Radar Online.

At this stage of the voting you wouldn’t really want to be Danny Ross or Harrison Craig would you….?

  1. I think Seal must have been amid a Post Traumatic Hash Disorder, when he released his irrational, ambiguous, and self-condemning rant. We need new legislation brought in to stop Seal within his wheels a Ranting and Reefing at the one time. If you Rant then No Reef. Men can only do one thing at a time, remember !!!!. ………….. We in the western society are in real Need to Breed – some real men. ………. Where have all the real men gone, long time Reefing, ….Where have all the real men gone, long time AGO.

  2. They have both just shown themselve to be pathetic in each of: their quality of character as so boldly, nicely, cleanly, and just so loving and unstanding people – Now it is seen as the Twins of False, the sham brothers. Pathetic. ;;;;;;; Oh but it is all good, why, ,,,,,,,,, because: “I Take Full Responsibility” , that would make a good name for a musical comedy:……. The Responsibility Brothers, …….. coming to you live from a drug rehab near you. great example to to the young people who worship them. ….. children please find another god, ,,,,,,, these ones are Two Faced tainted, sham glam man x 2. Very sad. It is definatley not a case of “What You See Is What You Get” ,,,,,,, False Kids, False.

  3. @Stan, it’s not really nationalism that has got people annoyed about the rant, it is more the sense that he appeared to be biting the hand that has fed him very well for the past two years. It sounded petulant, condescending and ungrateful and that never goes down well with Australians.

  4. One thing I find astonishing (among many) in Seal’s rant is his attack upon the media, calling them trash. He seems to forget that without the paparazzi he would have fallen into oblivion years ago Pics of him with ex-wife Heidi Klum were a paparazzi staple for years and they courted the so-called “trash” media by having ceremonies to renew their wedding vows every year, hosting elaborate Halloween fancy dress parties, taking their kids on outings, all in full view of paparazzi photographers so they could get their mugs in magazines, on gossip websites, etc. Yet when it doesn’t suit him, they are suddenly classed as “trash”? The irony is truly deafening and the hypocrisy beggars belief. He has so shot himself in the foot with that rant. Celebrities and their misuse of Twitter strikes yet again.

@jm, Hallucinogenic mushrooms are grown naturally in the ground – should their ingestion be legal? In the scheme of things, I agree being caught with 5g cannabis is minor, but as David points out The Voice is family friendly and it is a bad look for Joel, who is the Eddie Everywhere of The Voice.

  5. @The Moops – Cool was just checking. Sounded very much like a company line. All Good

imho tho I hardly class something that is grown naturally and is used by Cancer Patients as a Drug. Its Legal in a lot of the world now. And a whole 5g of the stuff!! Quick call the FBI.

btw I wonder if Joel has a Marijuana Licence in California….. A lot of “celebs” do

  6. Interesting how he can eloquently take up 5 mins of Live TV gushing over how lucky Australia is to get to ‘know’ Harrison Craig yet he can so easliy have such an embarrassing rant let fly via twitter.

Oh that’s right, he’s not getting paid to tweet so therefore doens’t need to pull at any heart strings.

I’m so over Seal. Bring back Keith

  7. I don’t really think Harrison is going to be worried at all seeing as though both his songs are still #1 and #2 on iTunes compared to Luke Kennedy who’s on #10 and #11, Celia Pavey on #17 and #42 and Danny Ross who’s way behind on #43 and #55. I really hope that all the top 12 have a successful career in music. And in my opinion if any of the top 12 this year (except for a couple) were in last years season i’m almost certain that they would’ve won. The talent this year has been amazing!

  8. @JM, no, I have no affiliation with The Star. I just believe that employees should observe company policies where appropriate and I am vehemently anti-drugs.

  9. I have no problem with Seal’s Tweets now that I have seen them in full. On the News last night they left out the mentions about “Trash Media” and “The Star”…. They made it look like he was having a go at the country. So the Media, in reporting this story the way they did have proved Seal’s point.

@The Moops – Are you employed by The Star?

  10. @carolemorrisey, how do you know the maid went through his belongings and that Joel would not leave the cannabis lying around? It is entirely possible that Madden was careless and left the bag of cannabis on the bedside table, it could have been tangled up in the sheets, dropped on the floor, etc. It could easily have been somewhere visible where a cleaner would find it, and as per hotel policy, cleaners have to report when they find drug paraphernalia in guests’ rooms.

  11. @Carolemorrissey according to reports it is company policy that made the maid report it to hotel management. And the management called police as per company policy.

  12. That rant was unbelievable, seriously. My tolerance for him is fading. I really can’t stand him anymore.

He is criticising the Australian media, calling them trash… but seems to forget the UK media is much worse.

He really should just go back home if he is so unhappy here.

  13. This is a bloke whose only claim to fame since about 1995 is he somehow managed to marry a super model.
Just stick to your promise and go home Seal, you won’t be missed.

  14. Seal did have a point about the media, it’s not the first time they have done it, and he was just sticking up for a mate. But, what was the maid doing going through his stuff, I’m sure it wasn’t just left lying around, and why did she report it, being such a small amount. Then for the hotel to call the police, what a waste of their resources when there are real serious crimes being committed on our streets. Then for them to kick him out, what an over reaction on their part.

  15. Seal needs to pull his head in, apologise properly and show a bit of class, something his condescending rant sorely lacked. The rant was ill-advised and showed very poor judgement. Despite his pathetic attempt at backtracking, it did read like an attack on the country as a whole, particularly the lines about being done here and wanting to go home. I feel sorry for his contestant, the backlash may effect the number of votes he gets.
