Today Tonight EP resigns

Today Tonight executive producer John Choueifate has resigned from Seven, replaced by Max Uechtritz.

TodayTThe Australian reports that Today Tonight executive producer John Choueifate has resigned from the Seven Network, following media reports of tension with head of public affairs Neil Mooney.

He will be replaced by Max Uechtritz, former ABC Head of News and Current Affairs and Nine News Director.

Last month TV Tonight reported that Choueifate had left the Seven show and that the network had brought in respected Max Uechtritz.

But that was branded a “gutter report” amid claims he had taken ‘sick leave.’

A statement from Mooney to staff said, “John has resigned from his employment and Seven has accepted his resignation so he will be leaving his position as executive producer of Today Tonight effective immediately”.

“Seven thanks John Choueifate for his efforts and wishes him well. Max Uechtritz will continue responsibility for Today Tonight.”

John Choueifate said: “It has been a great pleasure, indeed honour to have played a significant role in Seven’s domination of the national current affairs market. I would like to thank all my colleagues for their untiring efforts and support and I wish them well.

“The media landscape is changing from day to day and I look forward to new, exciting opportunities.”

Choueifate was appointed producer of the show in February 2012, replacing former EP Craig McPherson. Prior to this he was a Producer on the show and has previously held senior positions in both Nine News and TEN News.

  1. “…Seven’s domination of the national current affairs market.”

Huh? I think he means the Perth and Adelaide markets. Nine has been whacking Seven in Sydney and Melbourne for a while now, and it usually wins nationally.
