  1. Before anyone else comments about this, although 7mate target markets are males – including those who want to watch the AFL in High Definition…I should point out that that Melbourne (along with Sydney and remote viewers in Central and Eastern Australia) will not be turning off the analogue transmitters until December.

If Channel 7 in Melbourne shifts the AFL game to 7mate in this market there will still be a decent percentage of pensioners and other viewers that would not have Set top boxes or new digital TV `s to view 7mate, therefore these viewers would not be able to see the game Live unless they subscribe to Foxtel and get the FOX Footy channel.

  2. I am surprised no one else has mentioned this yet. Channel 7`s coverage of the Federal Election (assuming it will be like in previous years where they screen rolling coverage from 6.30pm until 11pm – 12 midnight unless they get a result early) will be potentially clashing with Live
coverage of the AFL Finals: Week 2, the Semi-Finals.

I am sure Channel 7 would have asked for the Saturday game to be scheduled on a Saturday night, however I don`t think it would be a wise idea to put that match over on the 7mate channel in Victoria, South Australia, the Northern Territory and Tasmania due to the election coverage. In WA it doesn’t matter due to the time zone difference while NSW,QLD and the ACT are Rugby League/Union areas and these viewers are use to seeing coverage on 7mate.

I am thinking that Andrew Demetriou and Gillon McLachlan should consider contacting Kerry Stokes or whoever is in charge of programming at the Seven Network to sort this out soon so their are no complaints from viewers across Australia in mid-September. One possibility is playing the match on the Saturday afternoon at 2.30pm on the 14th September to avoid the programming clash in the AFL states.

  3. Every political commentator on commercial and public broadcasters must declare they history and present affiliations in dull. This includes media advisors aka spin doctors, who call themselves “Election Strategy Experts” when in fact they work for one party and their people are ex party etc members or workers etc

We need complete transparency, cause we do no have it now, not even close

  4. Na…ABC thanks. Antony Green, Kerry O’Brien, Barry Cassidy, as long as they don’t have Sophie Mirrabella or Christopher Whine…I mean…Pyne, or Mathias what’s-his-name.

  5. I still don’t see any talent in this man. He has 100 days (give or take) to work out how to explain away the result which awaits the person he made Prime Minister.
