Airdate: 2013 NAIDOC Awards

NITV will screen the NAIDOC Awards, recognising the contributions Indigenous Australians make to improve the lives of people in their communities.

2013-07-10_2355This Saturday night NITV will screen the 2013 National NAIDOC Awards Ceremony and Ball from Perth, hosted by Ernie Dingo and Narelda Jabobs.

Casey Donovan and Mary G will rove the red carpet which will include Marngrook Footy Show’s Grant Hansen, Barefoot Sports Brad Cooke, NITV News Natalie Ahmat, NITV Sports Executive Producer and former Rugby Union player Mark Ella, and SBS Living Black host Karla Grant.

NITV News team will also present the NITV News Live from Perth from 5.30pm Friday 12 July 2013.

The theme for NAIDOC Week 2013 is We value the vision: Yirrkala Bark Petitions 1963, a celebration of the 50th anniversary of the presentation of the Yirrkala Bark Petitions to the Federal Parliament.

Entertainer and performer, Christine Anu will perform at this prestigious event. Christine Anu is one of Australia’s most successful female recording and performing artists and an Iconic Indigenous Australian.

The NAIDOC Awards has a long history of cultural celebration and civil rights and NITV is proud to be broadcasting this special event. NAIDOC started off with Aboriginals boycotting Australia Day (26 January) in protest against the status and treatment of Indigenous Australians and then formed into a national celebration of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture for all Australians.
