Camp: behind the scenes

Video: Here's a behind the scenes glimpse of Camp, the dramedy filmed in the NSW but doubling as USA.

Here’s a behind the scenes glimpse of Camp, the dramedy filmed in the Tweed region of Northern NSW, but doubling as Little Otter Family Camp for NBC.

Most of the cast is Aussie including Rachel Griffiths, Rodger Corser and a bunch of Dance Academy kids Tim Pocock, Dena Kaplan and Tom Green.

At first glance this looks like it fills the brief -although I’m not really sure why some are speaking with American accents for their interviews?

This airs in the US next week as summer content for NBC.

  1. Don’t be surprised if a local network buys it and then argues that it is Australian content under the local rules despite the fact the whole thing was developed in the US and then shot here. The network would buy it for a fraction of the cost of commissioning a local drama and then screen it out of ratings. The lawyers are probably on to it already.

  2. Most of the accents are fine, though Roger Corser’s sounded a bit wobbly from that clip. But to all the people saying how cringing it is, get over it. That’s what is required if you work on a US project – you do a US accent. And some actors find it’s much easier to speak in that accent all day once they get on set – including for behind the scenes stuff – to maintain the authenticity for their character they are playing, rather than ‘switching’ all the time between takes.

  3. Remember they shot The Starter Wife here with Debra Messing with Judy Davis leading the cast of Aussiescall doing American accents? I believe they shot it on the Gold Coast but it was supposed to be California. Ummm, that means the sun is on the wrong side of the house, lol.

Our quality of sunlight in Oz also means the scenes don’t look quite right.

  4. They were probably told by their agents/publicists to use American accents for the interviews so as not to ‘confuse’ the press as to where this show is from. Not to mention some Americans are terrible at understanding any other accent…some shows have used subtitles for interviews with Aussies before!

  5. Tom Green also doing it in an American accent… very odd indeed! They could have been filming at the time and maintained the accent to keep it easier for themselves I suppose…

  6. It just looks so fake when Aussie actors are being interviewed but use an American accent. It makes me cringe. A new low. Reminds of Kiwi Phil Keoghan faking an American accent to host Amazing Race or Aussie/Kiwi Bartholomew John doing infomercials or even Simon Baker doing his the bank adverts as an American.

  7. I know other locally produced US shows have not worked in the recent past but I would have been good if FTA could have fast tracked this, even on a digital channel.

Any sign of any local network getting this one, even Foxtel?
