Game not on Mole

Ratings: Nine will be happy with the Bakeoff, TEN is smiling with its Dome and Seven has big problems with its Mole.

autv_themoleIn a nutshell Nine will be happy with the Bakeoff, TEN is smiling with its Dome and Seven has big problems with its Mole.

That’s the way Tuesday shaped up for the commercial networks last night. Without Packed to the Rafters, Seven was more vulnerable to competition from its rivals and it didn’t help that viewers have been disappointed by The Mole. As it burrowed to fourth in its timeslot it impacted on the season launch of Winners and Losers.

Nine network share was 31.7% then Seven 24.3%, TEN 19,9%, ABC 17.0% and SBS 7.1%.

The Block (1.45m) topped the night for Nine then Nine News (1.36m), A Current Affair (1.18m), The Great Australian Bakeoff (1.12m), Hot Seat (753,000) and The Mentalist (421,000).

Seven News (1.36m) was best for Seven then Today Tonight (1.1m), Home and Away (923,000), Winners and Losers (798,000), Deal or No Deal (597,000), The Mole (555,000), How I Met Your Mother (523,000 / 420,000). Go On was just 177,000. Seven indicates a coding error in Brisbane saw Winners and Losers merged with a repeat and the number will be adjusted to 869,000.

Under The Dome improved without Packed to the Rafters, to lift to 1.02m for TEN. MasterChef was 773,000 then TEN News (693,000), The Project (618,000), NCIS: LA (499,000). The Simpsons was 388,000.

ABC News (912,000) led ABC1 followed by 7:30 (835,000), New Tricks (765,000), Kitchen Cabinet (741,000), At the Movies (409,000) and Seasons (328,000).

On SBS ONE it was Who Do You Think You Are? (255,000), Tour de France (248,000 pre-race / 204,000 race), Insight (235,000) and World News Australia (175,000).

ABC2’s Charlie and Lola was best on multichannels with 375,000. Shitsville Express was 113,000.

  1. @ Dr_Rudi Hilarious.

Hopefully 7 will return with an Aussie version of TAR.

It could be an interesting 2nd half:
    10 trying to rise.
7 having flopped with Celebrity Dive and burrowed with the Mole (lol). Must be hoping Dancing & X-Foo rate better
and 9 challenging with more drama and AGT.
ABC hopefully remaining steady. I am looking forward to some of their shows they have to offer.

  2. @Mr Rampage, that’s exactly what i decided to do after 2 episodes of the new one and nothing happened. Get on Youtube. Watched 5 episodes and it’s awesome. Seven should have stuck to the same formula.

  3. 248,000 watched the Tour’s pre-race, but only 204,000 the race itself?
Nearly 50,000 TV sets were switched off or changed channels after the preamble and Gabriel Gaté’s recipe?
And it was thrashed in the ratings by a repeat of Charlie and Lola?
OzTam are not filling me with much confidence in their figures.

  4. What’s to say they won’t make TAR Australia a three-nights-a-week show? They didn’t learn this time from the glowing success that was Celebrity Splash.

The Mole definitely should have been better. It’s hard to believe they found a way to make it worse than “Tom Williams + Live Eliminations!” but… here we are.

  5. @steviem, no people on here have it right. The Mole could have been good, and as you say people on here were interested. Seven did the damage though with terrible ads, poor scheduling, and bad editing. I think majority on here would make better programmers than what the commercial networks have now.

Bring back The Amazing Race Australia. If they axed that for The Mole then they made a big mistake.

    1. Kev that’s baloney. Wentworth has been a big success this year alone. Better Men is outstanding. Not everything fires but generalising when you have the benefit of anonymity isn’t helpful.

  6. Ummm just goes to show that Fremantle can’t make any good programs.. and perhaps they should look inward… especially when employees can go from being a logger to a series producer in 3 years … badly made programs by inexperienced reality show staff .. all discards from the Big Brother tv workshop

  7. But in all seriousness, should have been a Sunday night / Monday/Tuesday show. Tues/Wed/Thur are definately the weaker nights . They also needed to be better with their production. The graphics and dated feel doesnt impress.

Having said that I aways loved the mole and am sticking with it/

  8. Just proves people on here actually have no idea (myself included!) 90% of comments RE the mole were how awesome it will be and good move seven. Lucky none of us work in TV and if we do then it must be TEN.

  9. “The Mole. As it burrowed to fourth”

    Don’t stop there David.

Surely the Bakeoff was hot, or even cooking with gas, and the Dome sealed the night for TEN ?

  10. I really enjoyed The Mole last night, they should just have a weekly episode like that. A 75 minute episode that has two challenges and two terminations, stretching it out over the week was a huge mistake.

I went back and watched GABO and found it quite boring. I’m very tired of all the cooking/food shows from MKR to Masterchef to GABO. I was hoping The Mole would do well to give other networks the incentive to make more diverse TV shows rather than the standard cooking/singing/renovating reality shows, but now it looks like it’ll scare networks off from doing anything outside of those boring and overdone genres.

  11. The the title “The Mole” does nothing to entice me to watch.

I think Seven will struggle for the remainder of 2013 compared to Nine…Nine seem to have better… bigger programming to come…where Seven don’t.

TEN are gradually improving and have released a few new programs in the last few weeks which should lift them further….slowly.

  12. Seven’s lazy programming strategy of stripping one reality show across multiple nights destroyed The Mole and dragged down Winners and Losers.
    Just bring back TAR.

  13. winners and losers was a terrible episode last night. the scene where the gay assistant and the step-sister stalking virginia gay’s character for no apparent reason but to see what she was up to was very childish. hope it picks up in the coming weeks but with more tighter storylines.

  14. I completely forgot about Bake Off. Dome may have increased in ratings but the episode was a little dull in comparison to the first two.
As for Seven, the commercials for The Mole are getting worse and worse making it look so childish. They completely stuffed up this show from be announcement with it’s never ending ‘Coming Soon’ promos, and then stretching it out to multiple nights a week for ratings – which has backfired.
Also, Seven has been advertising HIMYM as though the Mother will be shown this week, which is wrong, its a few weeks away.

  15. Sorry Seven but that is what you get when you strip a reality show that should only be airing once a week. The Mole to be terminated and bring back The Amazing Race Australia! Seven had better hope X Factor returns well otherwise it could be a hard 2nd half, something they haven’t had happen in a long while.

Under the Dome continues to do well for TEN and Nine well they dominated last night.

  16. I actually surprisingly really enjoyed GABO last night. There is great chemistry not only between the host’s and judge’s but also the contestants. Will definantly be watching this throughout the season.

  17. Completely forgot to watch How I Met Your Mother. I still watched The Mole, last night was better as they had a termination. I found GABO pretty set, but boring to watch.
