Jenny Brockie - SBS TV Insight HostThis week on Insight a studio audience of Turkish Australians discuss the recent protests that have divided Turkey.

What started as a rally opposing the building of a mall in Istanbul’s Gezi Park has morphed into large-scale protests against the government.

And it’s turned ugly. At least five protestors have been killed and numerous injured in the clashes.

Protestors accuse Prime Minister Erdogan of being a heavy handed authoritarian leader, deliberately dividing people along class an religious lines and destroying the urban environment. But his supporters point to his success in lifting the country out of recession and bringing stability to the country.

The audience will give their views on what’s behind the unrest, and whether there is a deep rift within the Turkish population.

8:30pm Tuesday SBS ONE.
