Newsflash…. “We like each other”

In the wake of ongoing media speculation, news presenter Kellie Connolly makes a stand for girl power.

2013-07-16_1052News presenter Kellie Connolly (pictured, left) has weighed into the recent media speculation on Melissa Doyle’s exit from Sunrise, writing a piece today in the Daily Telegraph.

She writes in part:

“…..I’ve had enough: enough of the back-stabbing and finger-pointing and scandalous accusations. And no, that’s not from the TV stars. I’m talking about what’s frequently written, blogged and broadcast about women in TV. Most of it’s wrong.

“Here’s some shocking news: We like each other. Support each other. Hang out with each other outside of work. We are competitive, sure, but when it comes down to it, we are friends, not enemies.

“In the TV stations, radio newsrooms, magazines and websites, women are tweeting congratulations to each other and sending messages of support. We provide advice, contacts and secret training. There’s a new camaraderie. A girls’ club. Finally.”

It’s a good read and you can check the rest here.

Interesting that the piece has been published by News Corp given it seemed to be the prime suspect in fuelling most of the stories, including with a front page.

An attempt to redress the balance, perhaps?

  1. I’m glad to see someone speaking out about Annette Sharp’s columns and stories that are plainly only filled with rumours and gossip.

  2. Its funny how they just joke about it now on sunrise. Where they say to each other better not say that womans day will publish it, or we hate each other dont you know that.

  3. Sam Armytage really disappointed me in the Kate Ritchie interview, I thought the whole thing felt uncomfortable, and Sam kept calling Kate “Sally” at the start of the interview!

  4. it still surprises that people bad mouth female journalists and reporters, the majority of news is female, journalists, reporters and presenters, how ever I do agree that there is age issues within the news room.

if you pick any news program the presenter is probably a woman.

Sandra Sully is one of Australia’s most loved and trusted reporters, She earned her stripes as have many others.

  5. I watched online an interview with Kate Ritchie on Sunrise. Sam Armytage looked so comfortable on the couch & Kochie look very uncomfortable…The body language was really uncomfortable too.

  6. Finally Some one that has come out and said that essentially it is a storm in a “Tea Cup” now people can get on with actual reporting on the on fact instead of rumour and innuendo that at the end of the day does no one any good.
