Nine appoints managing director of NWS Adelaide

Nine has appointed dmg radio manager Sean O’Brien as managing director of NWS Adelaide.

Sean_OBrienNine CEO David Gyngell has appointed dmg radio manager Sean O’Brien  as managing director of NWS Adelaide.

O’Brien returns to NWS from dmg Radio, as General Manager of Nova 919/FIVEaa.

He began his media career with the Traffic Department at NWS in 1987 before transitioning to the sales department. In 1991 O’Brien led the NWS media representation company, TransAust, heading the sales activities for WIN and NBN regional television networks. In 2000 he was appointed sales director of NWS Adelaide, a position he held until 2010 before taking up his current role with dmg Radio.

“Sean’s the man we wanted for this job. He knows Adelaide so well, he’s a natural leader, he’s worked previously at NWS and he’ll be first amongst equals running really hard to build the station as a fully-fledged partner of the Nine Network. I could not be more delighted about his appointment,” said Gyngell.

O’Brien added: “I am thrilled to be returning to NWS at such an exciting time. It is a new era for the Adelaide market and I look forward to delivering the best possible product to viewers and advertisers as we join the Nine Network for the first time.”

Peter Wiltshire, Nine Entertainment Co. group sales & marketing director, said: “Nine Entertainment Co. took ownership of NWS at 11am on Monday and we very quickly thereafter made our approach to Sean. We know NWS will flourish under his leadership as the opportunities afforded by being part of the Nine Network triggers real change not only in Adelaide but across the broader Australian media landscape.”

  1. Oh!

Maxxdude, Nines in Syd, Mel, Bris, Dar, Ad, Perth + NBN brings them up to 74%, according to Nine. But maybe ACMA have different ideas since the margin is so fine?

  2. Comments here make it sound like WIN was piping in ZDF Germany to Adelaide viewers. The only difference in programming will come from dropping Alive & Cooking for Extra at 4pm weekdays.

  3. Now Seven won’t have it all it’s own way. Especially once Perth joins Nine & the population gets over it’s obsession with everything Seven.
Can Nine get Hobart Darwin & Canberra on board also as they are not included in the 75% law. Or am I mistaken?
