Robert Hughes to plead not guilty

Former Hey Dad actor Robert Hughes will plead not guilty to 11 charges relating to the sexual and indecent assault of five girls.

Hughes formally waived his right to a committal during a brief court appearance in Sydney’s Downing Centre Local Court today.

His lawyer Greg Walsh told reporters outside court, “We would probably try and get a trial date depending on court’s availability around September, October this year.

“I would anticipate it will be a lengthy trial. There could be pre-trial arguments which could take four to six weeks or even longer.”

Walsh indicated he had support from his partner, agent Robyn Gardiner, and his daughter in England.

The actor did not speak to media this morning.

Trial proceedings begin on Friday.
