  1. I liked Ripper Street. It started before the end of The Block final which i think was a mistake. Some of its content really says it should be on at 9 or 9.30 pm too. The old photographs they used were actual ones from that time and era. I hope it airs better next week.

  2. No network stays on the top forever and soon Nine will get an even bigger head ( if that is possible ) and start making programming errors or misjudgements.

    Big Brother is boring on Nine and no Friday nights fun show. We turned off that last year and will only tape it at best to catch the few good bits.

    Underbelly is showing signs of not becoming a ratings winner.

    $1 Billion debt raked up already since the US Hedge funds took over ch 9 in Australia – so the good times may be over soon as they will have to watch how much more they borrow now. Expect plenty of repeats. Glad there are more channels than the Nine network – we hardly ever watch than Network. 🙂

  3. @neve54 – Less than half TV viewers have Foxtel. Surveying ‘only Foxtel homes’ would produce a falsely skewed result. Even if Oztam installed 1,000 times the current number of boxes the results would only be +/-2% different.

    I would not accept someone monitoring everything I watch, although obviously Google does this (unknown to me). “1984”. A good movie.

  4. Who said that The Block was dead. The auctions were the most gripping TV this year.
    Underbelly is lacking something this year but Jared Daperis’ performance is just stunning. Is Susie Porter channeling Jackie Weavers’ performance in Animal Kingdom? David what did you think?

  5. I just don’t understand why so much emphasis is put on these ratings that is based off an average of 10,000 people in Australia. Surely with the amount of people with Foxtel there has to be a different way to get a more accurate picture of who is watching what

  6. @bettestreep, yes, I am sure MC will be annihilated tonight with the launch of two huge series. I doubt it will make the Top 20, to be honest.

    I have just been reading the news.com.au website, where Squizzy is being absolutely panned to death on the reader feedback page. Seems that people did not enjoy it at all. General consensus is that Nine have a bomb on their hands with this one. Expect big viewer falloff next week.

    And I agree that Ten execs once again made a huge mistake premiering a show on the night of a finale of a super ratings hit like the Block.

    And how ridiculous they were having a countdown during MC. Seriously Ten, ‘8 minutes to go before Ripper Street premieres’….

    BTW – will MC be completely destroyed tonight with the premieres of Big Brother and X Factor?

    I’m still annoyed how non-live TV can run overtime, when they obviously know how long the show is going to run for.

  9. Ten should’ve gone with movies for a few weeks, before launching Ripper Street on August 18th.

    Then it would have timed nicely to launch straight into Homeland season 3 on October 6th.

  11. “Wow”. “Squizzy” shed half a million between eps.
    Writers of period-set dramas should watch “A Place to Call Home” to get the language of the time correct. Does matter. Liberal use of the ‘f-word’ was not done (by anyone) in those days. Should know, was around then.
