2013-08-25_0116Next month the LifeStyle Channel screens a two part special on the Chelsea Flower Show, presented by Charlie Albone.

For the shows centenary, an Australian volunteer team set out to achieve one of the most ambitious projects ever attempted.

In a two-part special, cameras captured Australian landscape designer, Phillip Johnson and a team’s journey to build a sustainable Australian garden in the heart of London. Selling Houses Australia’s landscape designer, Charlie Albone, presents Chelsea’s Greatest Garden 2013, only on The LifeStyle Channel.

Renowned landscaper and designer, Phillip Johnson, backed by presenting partner Flemings Nurseries, and a team of dedicated volunteers, aimed to take home not only the coveted gold medal, but the most highly regarded award in gardening, the Best In Show.

With less than three weeks to get the entire garden ready, Phillip and the team set about cultivating their vision – The Trailfinders Australian Garden, presented by Flemings – of a sustainable Australian style billabong garden, with over 10,000 plants which had to be properly planted and maintained.

Chelsea is notorious for attracting the cream of the celebrity crop and Phillip’s garden is graced with a very special visitor when Prince Harry drops by for an unannounced tour.

But with all of the highs, come some inevitable lows – a change in site means visitors will not be able to see the billabong from the planned walk way, and Phillip needs to charm the RHS to convince them to install another ramp. And the team have to combat a leak with the waterfalls, which threatens to undo a huge amount of their work if the problem isn’t identified and fixed quickly.

Finally, show day arrives – competition and emotions are high and the garden receives another royal visit from Her Majesty The Queen.

With Phillip and the team huddled in front of the garden, the judges finally award them the Gold medal. But their wild celebrations are soon interrupted by another announcement, for the first time in history, the garden has won Best in Show.

Chelsea’s Greatest Garden 2013 is produced by hsquared.
