Disney Channel tonight will premiere Teen Beach Movie, which has become the #2 movie in US cable TV history (overall) and the #2 cable TV telecast of all time across kids of different age groups after pulling more than 13.5 million US viewers in total.
According to Nielsen data, Teen Beach Movie is now the No. 2 film in US cable television history, behind High School Musical 2 from 2007.
Tonight’s broadcast will be followed by the first-ever FanFest after-party, a musical concert filmed in Sydney last week featuring performances by Bridgit Mendler, Ross Lynch and R5, Naomi Sequeira and boy band What About Tonight.
Teen Beach Movie stars Ross Lynch (of Disney Channel’s “Austin & Ally” and Hollywood Records’ R5) and Australia’s first true Disney star, Lismore native Maia Mitchell, as Brady and McKenzie, surfers who take the last wave of summer, one that mysteriously takes them into a classic beach party movie, Wet Side Story. There, it’s surfers versus bikers for control of the beach hangout…and everyone spontaneously breaks into song and dance. Brady and McKenzie must try to return to present day, but their lives may be changed forever when they inadvertently change the movie’s romantic storyline — and the movie’s handsome surf guy, Tanner, is falling for McKenzie while biker girl Lela is swooning for Brady (watch the official trailer below).
