2013-08-19_1200SBS 2 will screen the first season of US reality show RuPaul’s Drag Race next week.

This show about finding “America’s next Drag Queen Superstar” has previously screened on Pay TV.

Produced for gay cable channel Logo, it has now had 6 seasons.

Glitz and glamour come to Saturday nights on SBS 2 with the free-to-air premiere of RuPaul’s Drag Race. RuPaul, the world’s most famous drag queen, is host, mentor and judge in this nine part reality series which follows the top nine drag queens in the U.S. as they vie for drag stardom.

Each contestant must strive to embody the charisma, uniqueness, nerve and talent that made RuPaul an international drag superstar. The judges will determine the bottom two contestants of the week. Those contestants then compete in a show-stopping battle-royal ‘lip-synch for your life’ performance to determine who will stay and who will go until one is crowned America’s next Drag Queen Superstar. Joining RuPaul on the judges panel each week are fashion journalist and bestselling author Merle Ginsberg and Project Runway breakout star and designer Santino Rice, plus celebrity guest judges.

Episode One: Drag on a Dime
In the first episode, the nine contestants arrive in costume and size up their competition. The first challenge they are given is to re-invent their glam drag looks using only thrift store clothing. Guest judge Bob Mackie helps RuPaul decide which drag queen has not dressed to impress.

Saturday, 31 August at 8.45pm on SBS 2

    1. Mark, there’s a new season (season 8) currently showing on Foxtel, on Friday nights on Lifestyle You, channel 129. It’s about four eps in,

  1. Love this show! The lighting and production values in the first season aren’t very good, but the talent and RuPaul make up for it. Never thought I’d see a FTA screening but SBS/SBS2 kinda makes sense.
