BBC Australia/NZ exec appointed as new ABC3 controller

BBC Aus / NZ Director of Content Deirdre Brennan appointed as new channel controller for ABC3.

deirdrebrennanThe ABC has appointed BBC Worldwide Australia & New Zealand Director of Content Deirdre Brennan as its new channel controller for ABC3.

She was previously ABC Kids’ programmer for six years and now replaces Tim Brooke-Hunt who resigned in June.

Brennan is the second BBC exec to take up a channel controller position at the ABC, following ABC1’s Brendan Dahill whom she replaced as Director of Content  in 2010.

Brennan was previously General Manager/Director of Channels and Branded Services Australasia at BBC (Aus / NZ) overseeing UKTV, UKTV NZ, BBC Knowledge, BBC Knowledge NZ and CBeebies and the Global iPlayer. During her time with BBC her executive credits include Jane Campion’s Top of The Lake for UKTV. She also had roles at MTV Networks, Nickelodeon Australia.

“My three years experience at BBC Worldwide has been invaluable, but I am excited about the opportunity to return to ABC TV as Controller Children’s, an area of content that I hold a deep passion for. The ABC has an incredible connection with Australian children and families and I am thrilled to engage with this audience once again,” she said.

“I’m delighted to welcome Deirdre back to the ABC,” said Richard Finlayson, Director ABC TV. “Her achievements and standing in Australia and internationally are exceptional and she will undoubtedly make an important contribution to the development of our children’s brands.”

She begins her new role in the new year.
