Bumped: Please Marry My Boy, Formal Wars, Grimm.

Border Security flies into Thursday nights to help an under-performing line-up on Seven.

2013-08-05_1109A few years ago when he was Programming chief at Seven Tim Worner boasted a “no-lemons policy.”

This year there have been quite a few citrus seeds planted here and there (The Mole, Celebrity Splash etc), so no surprises that Seven has now bumped some of its under-performing Thursday night schedule. As we saw with TEN last year, these things seem to be cyclical for everybody -but that’s television. Your ability to recover is integral.

This week it slips a new Border Security International into the 8pm slot which pushes the current schedule out by 30 minutes. Next week they will be pushed out by an hour when Dynamo: Magician Impossible steps in.

Thursday August 8
8:30pm Please Marry My Boy
This week, the three mums set a task to find out which potential bride would be great with their future grandchildren. At Brad’s old primary school a ‘show and tell’ session goes horribly wrong. Nathan’s mum Doreen sees after school care duties are too difficult for some; whilst one of Carlo’s favourites finds organising kids’ party games to be no fun at all. With the results in, second dates are awarded and anticipation ends in disappointment for two winners before the mums and dads unveil another surprise in each household.

9:30pm Formal Wars
Rock chick Reanna may be outspoken – but she’s a family girl at heart. Reanna’s dad has especially returned for her year 12 formal and her Mum is determined to make it memorable. But she’s got a battle on her hands when she unveils her plan to cover Reanna’s tattoos and take out those piercings. Reanna’s friend Sam is quite the opposite, but his dad has also worked abroad for much of his life, and without a mum, Sam has spent time at boarding school. But this year they’re back together for one final year, and it’s clear that Sam’s dad hasn’t updated his sense of style since the mid-1970s. Will they get the formal they’ve always dreamed of?

10:30pm Grimm (dbl ep)
“Bad Moon Rising / Quill”
As Hank continues to seek help to cope with the inexplicable siting he had, an old friend, Jarold Kempfer needs his help when his daughter goes missing. Nick’s expertise as a Grimm comes in to play as he investigates the disturbing motives.

12:30am The Mindy Project
“Pretty Man”
Mindy hits it off with a handsome man who turns out to be a prostitute. Horrified, Mindy tries to avoid him until she realises she needs a date for Danny and Alex’s dinner party.

Thursday August 15
8pm Dynamo: Magician Impossible
9pm Please Marry My Boy
10pm Formal Wars
11pm Grimm (single ep)

  1. I’m surprised free-to-air channels persist in producing stuff yawn provoking stuff like PMMB and Formal Wars, shows that belong on secondary channels or a reality show focussed cable channel like Arena. Ten went down this path this time last year with atomic bomb sized turkeys like The Shire, Being Lara Bingle, Everybody Dance Now and I Will Survive and copped major criticism and scornful indifference from its viewers. I’m surprised a channel as viewer savvy as Seven is making the same programming error.

  2. Thursday Night of Late has Become The Death Slot for Seven meaning that if a Locally Produced Show aired on Seven on Thursday Nights against The Footy Show on Nine and SVU on Ten has a Greater than Average Chance of Being Cancelled.

  3. I just don’t get why anyone would watch such reality trash as Please Marry My Boy.
    Or Formal Wars.
    Or some magician thing.
Probably that’s why I haven’t looked at 7 for the last few years!

    1. What am I being accused of now? The story and the comment have positives and negatives for Seven.

Besides isn’t it a bit rich to call me a fanboy when your email address suggests the very same thing, and I have my full name published?

  4. I am surprised Formal wars launched so late, when aimed at teenage girls?
As for PMMB, I thought it started on a Monday 9:30ish after something and then bumped to Thurs?
Launching a show and then continuing on a different night isn’t programming101!

  5. Seven has followed Ten into the trashy reality genre with the same result. We don’t want it.
The promos for Slide have a laugh track. Why have an audience if you are going to insert a laugh track. Screams dud to me.

  6. All 7 has to do to solve its Thursday problems is simple. Reschedule Slideshow to 7.30, The Mole at 8.30, Please Marry My Boy at 9.30, Formal Wars at 10.30 and repeats of Celebrity Splash at 10.30.

Then they could promote it as “Reality Turdsday”…

  7. Formal Wars is quality trash, I get a lot of laughs out of it. But PMMB is utter garbage. FW should get the 8:30 slot and get some better promos, with PMMB buried later in the night.
