SBS signal extends to more rural Australians

SBS will become available to another 95 rural and regional locations, some for the very first time.

2013-08-29_1128SBS will become available to another 95 rural and regional locations making it available to the homes of at least 130,000 more Australians for the first time.

It will include areas which have never before received SBS digital television services. Areas such as Bruce Rock, Carnamah, Kununurra East, Kojonup, Merredin and Norseman in Western Australia are already benefitting from the expansion.

SBS Managing Director Michael Ebeid said: “This announcement is exciting news for Australians living in rural and remote communities and a significant milestone in SBS’s evolution. It means more people will receive SBS digital television than ever before.

“The expansion of digital television services will enable SBS to use its unique position within the Australian media landscape to contribute to social cohesion, by telling stories which truly explore and celebrate our diversity in a way only SBS can.”

  1. Will this extended coverage mean that SBS sports commentators make mention of A League teams other than the two located in Sydney ?

This has rarely happened over the past few years.
