Sherlock: teaser

Video: No idea how Sherlock survives that cliffhanger fall at the end of Season 2, but Benedict Cumberbatch is back for Season Three.

Writer Steven Moffat (Doctor Who) is in the news a fair bit, with a teaser for Sherlock‘s new season released by the BBC.

While we have no idea how Sherlock survives that cliffhanger fall at the end of Season Two, it’s no secret that Benedict Cumberbatch is back for Season Three.

Meanwhile Borgen star Lars Mikkelsen, brother to Hannibal‘s Mads Mikkelsen, has also been cast as the villainous Charles Augustus Magnussen.

We still don’t know the date it’s returning yet.

  1. The bus obscuring vision meant that it could have been done with a set-up like in Jonathon Creek. But how did Sherlock know Moriarty was going to force him to jump of the roof in advance?

If it wasn’t set up Sherlock could have grabbed something on the way down to slow his fall but then how do you control things and stop Watson, a trained military combat surgeon, from rushing across the road to check for a pulse and injuries?

Unless Watson was in on it. But then why would he be so upset at the funeral — Watson is not that good an actor.

We will find out, probably next year.

  2. Thanks David and Pertinax for the information. I’ll admit I remembered about the funeral. Also I’ll note in the book story the character mentioned in the article was called Charles Augustus Milverton. So I assume they changed it to suit the actor. Fine with me. I’ve not seen the clip but will try to later assuming the internet is up to it.

  3. They use John’s moustache for great comic relief. They must have been thinking “Let’s put in eerie clips of the regular cast finding out that Sherlock’s alive … then moustache!”

In regards to how he survived, Sherlock only fell about 4 stories, and the way that he fell (feet first) suggests that he could have possibly survived the fall with some cushioning on impact.

Finally: is 9 going to fast track this when it actually airs or what?
    (If they don’t, I’ll be pretty surprised/unimpressed.)

  4. Of course Sherlock survived, the episode was entitled The Reichenbach Fall. And we saw him watching his own funeral at the end of the episode.

Obviously, without warning, he organised a trick some sort of trick descent and corpse, a corrupt forensic investigation and fake burial. Which was apparently important because even after Moriarty was dead his henchman must be very vigilant.

They haven’t finished shooting the 3rd episode yet. It was rumoured for Halloween. They are now talking after Christmas possible sometime in January.

  5. @Craig Nah he ruled out playing The Doctor a long time ago, he didn’t want his face on lunch boxes (his words) But I hope he can reconsider this position and play The Master one day.
