Tropfest TV coming to SBS 2

Some of the best short films from Tropfest festivals around the world will screen on SBS 2.

2013-08-22_0056Tropfest short film festival, which will take place in December, is about to return to SBS with Sunday nights set to showcase some of the best films from around the world.

The 13-week season will feature  short films from the last three years in Australia, New Zealand, USA and the Middle East. Each episode will feature a different theme starting with love and hate, and covering other subjects including sacrifice, money, authority, sex and obsession.

Many of Australia’s greatest actors and directors have got their start by making or starring in a short for Tropfest. The festival has played a part in launching the careers of international film star Sam Worthington, who won Best Actor in a 2001 short, and SBS’s cult comedy hero Paul Fenech whose film Pizza Man was a Tropfest finalist in 1995, and Intolerance the winner in 1998.

This year’s Tropfest will be held at Centennial Park in Sydney on December 8, and will be broadcast on SBS 2.

Episode One – Love and hate – Sunday 8 September, 10pm on SBS 2
The theme for the first episode of Tropfest TV is love and hate and features five short-listed and finalist films from the New York and Australian Tropfest festivals. Bridget is a hilarious 2013 New York finalist film about a young woman who signs up for online dating, but finds that every user name seems to already be taken. A Tortured Mind is a 2012 shortlisted film by South Australian filmmakers Dave Wade and Bettina Hamilton and is a caveman comedy about overcoming boredom, and being different to everyone else. Kitchen Sink Drama was a finalist at Tropfest Australia 2012 and is the story of the best worst marriage proposal ever. It follows Aaron who is about to propose to Stacey but in doing so discovers that by playing a practical joke beforehand, he may have ruined the entire relationship.
