Wednesday Wonderland for TEN

Ratings: TEN's new drama gets off to a good start, second in its timeslot and winning the demos.

2013-08-22_1014TEN’s new drama got off to a good start last night with Wonderland pulling 948,000 second in its timeslot. Ironically it was only beaten by Gruen Nation‘s 1.05m featuring TEN exec Russel Howcroft (he was on record as saying he wanted Wonderland to win).

Wonderland also topped the demos last night.

But the night was won by Nine with the Ashes netting an 8.3% share on GEM, despite Seven coming first in primary channels.

Seven News (1.18m) was best for Seven then Today Tonight (933,000), SlideShow (932,000), Home and Away (881,000), Criminal Minds (627,000 / 558,000) and Deal or No Deal (552,000).

  1. @ Pete, yes the trend has been for plummeting ratings. SOO didn’t help. Last weeks ep was not very good only developing the ‘island’ storyline.

  2. @ Mason. Totally agree. We are Aussie so more Aussie stories the better. Still feel that Carlos and Colette, showed some diversity for multiculturalism though.

  3. Good for TEN, so far, but can’t see it being a “Number 97”, or “son of Number 96”. Can have the prettiest actors in town, but if the writing’s below par, well…..

  4. I’ve no interest in watching Wonderland but pleased to see an Australian drama do well. Surprised they launched against Gruen. You only have one shot to introduce the characters to people and they put it up against strong competition. Comedy really is amazingly subjective I find Gruen the equivalent of watching a year 10 media class where the kids say the most obvious things in the world while Hamster Wheel I thought was actually full of pretty good jokes, which would be much more difficult to put together than a semi scripted chat. Still horses for courses.

  5. i watched the first ep of this wonderland but when is australia going to do a good hard drama series not a comedy/drama, add this one to the list of shows i will not watch again

  6. Wonderland lost me after a few minutes. Yet another group of whiteys living n the same block of flats. As for the dialogue … was it written by a 15 year old schoolgirl?
I lived in numerous blocks of flats as a youngster and I was never friends’ with anyone in the block. I already had friends …
My prediction – sub-500K in three weeks.

  7. I thought Wonderland was dull and boring. It’s really just a soap with a very ‘white’ cast. It’s a shame that so much money is spent on a drama that adds nothing. Good that a lot of actors and crew get work, but just for wallpaper, such a shame

  8. Watched Wonderland last night. A bit bland. Will give it another go but it’s certainly no Offspring.

I guess it’s difficult to introduce 8+ characters in 40 minutes but none of them seem even remotely interesting.

  9. TEN was doing their best to put me off of this with the over promotion but I decided to watch Wonderland seeing as there was nothing else to on. I highly doubt I’ll continue with it.
I can’t say I like any of the characters so far, and Rob’s wife can’t stand him as much as I do. I can see her character cheating on him with someone of higher intelligence who she has a better connection with.
The storyline with Kristen driving off with Tom’s car made no sense at all. The father of the bride drove the car to the wedding, and the newlyweds were to drive off in it after the reception, so how did the keys end up in her bag?
The wedding scenes went on for way to long, should have been cut down to the final 5 mins or so of the reception and we would have had still understood the backstory to the reason for the bet. Also, what was the deal with the South American guy hanging around…

  10. @smit0847 very unfair…

I enjoyed both shows and agree with your thoughts on Gruen (all though last week was better than last night)

In regards to Hamster there was a sketch that made me laugh alot

Gruen is more a giggle kind of funny, hamster is more laugh out loud.

  11. I gave up Gruen to watch Wonderland and was suprised at how strong a first epidode it was. Also good to see Tracey Mann back on screen. I’ve been a fan since Sweet and Sour. I really hope this works. The more Aussie stories we have on TV the better.

  12. Totakky agree with smit0847

No more replacing Tommy Little (ok he has commitments). I find him to be one of the funniest comedians of the past few years and really relatable. Last nights TWL was to me a Project copy. It really needs to distance itself from The Project by not having the same hosts. Charlie Pickering is ok, but not enough to have on my screen all the time. It has a great cast and should stick to it. TG’s segment with Steve Price said it all “Shameless cross promotion he had to have”… avoid this and your golden.

  13. Ten would be happy with Wonderland’s launch. I thought it was OK, but would need to improve in the coming weeks to maintain its audience.
As for Tommy Little, wasn’t he recording A League of their Own?

  14. I wanted to watch Wonderland, been looking forward to it. But it didn’t start on time so I watched Gruen instead. Can’t start on time I won’t watch, pretty simple. And when Ten needs viewers more than ever don’t understand why they want to piss them off. Set yourself apart from the other networks and start shows on time. Viewers will respect you more.

  15. Gruen was excellent last night. Smart, funny, informative and entertaining.

Hamster wheel was exactly the opposite. Stupid, painful and not funny. Having that Senator sing (out of time and key) was excruciating to watch.

Why does TWL keep ditching Tommy Little in favour of guest hosts? Are they auditioning to replace him?
