Airddate: Sam and Cat

The new series with iCarly and Victorious stars as pals running a baby-sitting service begins on Nickelodeon.

2013-09-24_1131Last year iCarly star Jennette McCurdy told TV Tonight she had signed onto a new series with showrunner Dan Schneider without even knowing what the project was.

Now that series Sam and Cat is about to premiere, joining Ariana Grande (Victorious) as friends running a baby-sitting service.

“I don’t know character, I don’t know concept, I don’t know title and it makes me nervous because they start production in like a month and a half. But I do know they’re casting right now. Things in the entertainment industry are always last minute!” she said at the time.

“I agreed as soon as I found out Dan Schneider was part of it. I definitely would not have said yes so exuberantly if it had been a different showrunner. But knowing Dan is the showrunner literally put me at ease because I’ve never met anybody as hard-working or as creative as him. Knowing he’s on my side is the best thing in the world.”

Grab your best friends, something fluffy and a juicy piece of meat because Nickelodeon’s (Nick’s) favourite funny gals Jennette McCurdy (iCarly’s Sam Puckett) and Ariana Grande (Victorious’ Cat Valentine) are back as their iconic characters from iCarly and Victorious in their new spin-off comedy series Sam & Cat! Nickelodeon US’ newest number one rating, live-action series will hit Aussie TV screens on Friday October 11 at 4.30pm and will continue to air weekdays at 4.30pm.

The series, created by award-winning executive producer Dan Schneider (iCarly, Victorious, Drake & Josh, Zoey 101) follows feisty Sam and flighty Cat as they become best friends and unlikely roommates who start a babysitting service. Series one includes a stellar list of celeb guest stars including Ellen Show regulars and YouTube stars, Sophia Grace and Rosie. In the series premiere, Sam and Cat first meet when a wild predicament lands both girls in the back of a moving garbage truck. After quickly becoming friends and roommates, they find themselves babysitting three younger kids, which give Sam and Cat the idea to start ”Sam & Cat’s Super Rockin’ Fun-Time Babysitting Service”.

Best known for her comedic portrayal of Sam Puckett on the mega-hit iCarly, Jennette McCurdy is an Aussie favourite. Travelling to Sydney twice in the past three years, Jennette first landed in Australia to host the 2011 Australian Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards alongside Nathan Kress, returning to our shores in 2012 to host Nick Australia’s local production Camp Orange: Wrong Town which resulted in record ratings for the series.

As well as winning audiences over as the beloved character Cat Valentine on Victorious, Ariana Grande is also signed to Universal Music in Australia and her 2013 breakout single, “The Way” featuring Mac Miller scored the triple threat her first Billboard Top 10 single, which achieved Gold status on the Australian ARIA charts. Grande has performed on Broadway in the musical 13 and her other acting credits include voiceover work on the animated Nick series Winx Club.

Both Jennette and Ariana will also star in Nickelodeon’s original TV movie Swindle which will premiere on Saturday November 23 at 5pm.

Friday October 11 at 4.30pm on Nickelodeon.

  1. A further note on the guest stars mentioned in the press release: they include Penny Marshall & Cindy Williams co-starring in one ep together, and Kel Mitchell from Kenan & Kel (something for those who are nostalgic for 90s-era Nick)
