Emma Dean wins Masterchef 2013

Emma Dean, 32, has won MasterChef Australia, defeating Lynton Tapp.

Emma DeanFormer town planner Emma Dean, 32, has won MasterChef Australia for 2013.

Dean, from Victoria, scored 85 points to Lynton Tapp’s 81 points in a three-round cook-off culminating in an intricate “Flight of the Bees” dessert.

It was a tight battle against the 25 year old stockman from the Northern Territory.

Samira El Khafir, 28 from Victoria, was eliminated after the second round.

Emma wins $100,000, a new Alfa Romeo, a publishing deal with New Holland, and access to some of Australia’s best kitchens. Lynton won $20,000 as runner-up and Samira won $10,000.

“I just can’t believe it. It really hasn’t sunk in yet. The whole experience feels like a dream, what a rollercoaster! I’m really privileged to have been able to share this with Lynton, who’s become a wonderful friend. I can’t wait to head out into the food world and make this restaurant a reality,” she said.

Dean has already purchased a second-hand commercial kitchen and is hoping to open up her own restaurant with her boyfriend.

TEN’s series has seen highs and lows this year since its relocation to Melbourne but the network has confirmed one MasterChef series for 2014 and is already advertising for new contestants.

  1. No sense at All in way in which people are eliminated the most talented lot got thrown out ,Rishi was truly deserving this title , U have group task but when it comes to eliminating the judges eliminate the whole group instead of just the weak links making the worst dish .
Why should the whole group be eliminated or put under elimination round ,why not the weak links from both groups.
Emma no ways she is sweet but seriously talent is not a winner this time .
Lucy and emmas dish was the worst in the 2nd last round and the whole group had to go through the pressure test ,what rubbish ..
This is the last season i watch master chef Aus.

  2. i thought i had finally found a series worth watching on tv but this….
they should probably should have named it the emma comic show.
goodluck to Lilliana, Vern and Rishi the true top 3 of masterchef

  3. I think Mc just need to realise people watch this show! It’s not just them and the contestants. That’s one problem we have put up with for 2 years now. At the end of the 1st season they did a questionnaire on what would make mc better but ever since season 3 we haven’t been asked.

  4. Picked the winner, and the order, based on who will sell the most cookbooks. Won’t be back next year. Too predictable and contrived. And something seriously wrong with the voting with Matt saying Lynton’s dessert was the best but gave him 8 and Emma 9. What the???

  5. Emma deserved to win. She was always putting up great dishes consistently each week. Lynton never won dish of the day.

Her ideas were always great and her plating was always great. Congrats to her and she seems like an awesome person as well.

  6. Lynton should have won based on the fact Emma stuffed up the last recipe right from the beginning but her dish seemed to taste better but don’t ask me how it did. Judges always say flavour wins but wasn’t the case last night.

  7. I agree with many of the comments regarding the winner. I want to be impressed by the finale and the winner. I ended up feeling considerably underwhelmed.

  8. As none of us have ever tasted any Masterchef dishes, it’s a bit rich to criticise the judging – whilst the plating is very important, the taste and texture is critical.

And we only see what the producers want us to see – people in a fluster is much more interesting than cool, calm and collected in a program such as this. For all we know, Emma could have been Miss Cool most of the time.

She did some top stuff – I picked her to win!

  9. I don’t want to sound bitter or mean, but I really didn’t think she deserved to win. Her abilities have been average at best during the show, especially during service challenges. And she constantly let the stress of the competition get to her. All the best to her, but I do question how she’ll go in a commercial sense.
The finale was rather dull and the contestants were still stressing and making mistakes. All three seemed as if they didn’t deserve to be there. Shouldn’t they be flawless at this stage? The scoring seemed rather out of whack as well. Especially with the final dessert. Speaking of which, it was ridiculous that the man who created it took more than a year to perfect it, but they were only given a couple of hours. Just stupid.
    A very average season.

  10. I didn’t watch the finale last night as I lost interest in this season many weeks ago. Congratulations to Emma, hope the future goes well for her. I hope Ten and Shine can pull their act together for next season. The brand is damaged, no doubt about it, and needs a lot of life to be breathed back into it.

  11. Was it just me or was last night the most boring Masterchef finale of all time? I also think that there were a few other cooks that were far mor deserving of the title. Rishi especially.

  12. That judging was ridiculous. Lynton had only stuffed up his meringue, and only received 7’s & 8’s, while Emma had stuffed up the granita and had a piece missing from the top layer and got all 9’s. I got upset every time I saw Rishi on the balcony, he should have been competing in the finale and should have won.

  13. Having read all the comments on the Masterchef facebook page I can only say I agree with most of them, this was one win that was not deserved and very much a case of her being the judges favourite from very early in the series. This was a very lacklustre series with many annoying and uninteresting cooks who were clearly not up to standard, I am thinking I will not be back for anymore of Masterchef.

  14. Ugh. She was a judges favourite from the beginning and it showed. I really don’t know how she won when she kept falling to pieces in the service challenges.
