FOX8 in the hunt for The Recruit

Reality TV is now looking for the next rising sports star to join an AFL club.

2013-09-13_1137We’ve had Football Superstar and Cricket Superstar, now AFL will get the reality treatment in The Recruit.

The 10 part series, being produced by McGuire Media will offer a spot on an AFL Club list.

The AFL has agreed to convene an officially constituted AFL Draft which will form part of The Recruit. All AFL Clubs will have the opportunity to recruit the winner.

The series will scour local football leagues and the AFL International Combines to uncover ambitious locals.

AFL Chief Executive Officer Andrew Demetriou said, “Nearly 100,000 senior players across the country play out their love for our only indigenous game every winter, in country and metropolitan teams in every part of Australia.

“Every footballer looks on the stars of the AFL competition with admiration for their skills, commitment and desire to be the best, and now Foxtel is offering the chance for one of these footballers to join the elite.”

Executive Director, Sport & Foxtel Victoria Ben Buckley said, “The aim of The Recruit is to discover someone who the AFL recruiters may have missed and the show’s simple premise is to find someone playing in a local, suburban or country league or someone internationally who is capable of playing AFL football.

“We believe this innovative reality series will capture the imagination of the sporting public and are delighted that the AFL has thrown their support behind the project.”

The Recruit will be produced by McGuire Media in association with The Media Tribe.

The competition is open to all footballers who are aged 20 (on or before December 31, 2013), who have not been on an AFL list previously or played in the VFL, SANFL or WAFL in the past two years. Applications are now open at www.fox8.tv

It will air in 2014. A host is yet to be announced.
