Gold Coast misses out on Top Gear filming

Updated: A V8 supercar prohibited for filming by the Gold Coast City Council does not involve Jeremy Clarkson.

jeremy-clarksonTop Gear‘s Jeremy Clarkson will drive a V8 Supercar in Warwick, Queensland, after Gold Coast City Council declined a request to film at the Holden Driving Centre at Norwell due to noise restrictions.

Driving centre boss Paul Morris had applied for a temporary relaxation of the noise restrictions for filming but was told it could not be done in time to meet Top Gear’s tight scheduling demands.

“We are talking about the world’s biggest TV show and the council, which is always banging on about how the Gold Coast is open for business, can’t even facilitate it,” he told the Courier Mail.

“Clarkson was going to drive the car himself. It’s bureaucracy gone mad. The pen-pushers are strangling this town with red tape.’’

Deputy Mayor and Norwell area councillor Donna Gates said the council had been given only 24 hours’ notice to approve the noise relaxation.

UPDATE: UK TV channel advises:

Jeremy is not involved in the filming and it is not for the TV program.

The filming taking place in Australia is actually for a promotional video for an upcoming commercial product and none of the presenters are involved.

  1. The Gold Coast Council is known for bad decisions. They should never have allowed housing so close to this facility as it is a testing track for a lot of touring car teams.

  2. Clarkson should get some advice from Simon Reeve about filming motor sports on the Gold Coast. Simon was able to get an interview with Ferret and the rest of the Finks MC and film a bike rally of Finks members riding thru the Coast for his recent doco series Australia With Simon Reeve. You can bet your bottom dollar Simon and Ferret didn’t bother with such niceties as asking the council for permission.

  3. Sifter, before getting your pants in a wad you probably should re-read the story.Clarkson isn’t complaining about it,it’s Paul Morris that’s complaining.
Clarkson probably doesn’t care at what venue it’s filmed.

  4. I have the opposite opinion to Jezza…I think it’s great! Clarkson thinks the world should bow down to him and bend over backwards to accommodate him because he’s on a TV show people have heard of? About time someone wiped that smug grin off his face. Top Gear used to be cool, now they are just full of themselves.

  5. So the TG team can drive cars around the Monaco F1 circuit with the hiearchy of F1….no problem, but can’t take a V8 for a spin around the Gold Coast.

JC (the self proclaimed messiah) will surely take the piss out of the council when presenting this segment…..great publicity eh?
