humphrey-bearHow’s this for irony?

On the day that the Nine Network announced the acquisition of STW9 Perth, community TV station West TV announced it would begin airing episodes of Humphrey on Channel 44.

West TV is bringing back the charms of Humphrey B Bear to your TV screen, with episodes of “Humphrey” airing weekday mornings at 7.00AM on Channel 44.

For over 48 years, Humphrey has been singing, dancing and miming his way through lounge rooms in more than 20 countries. An Australian icon that millions have grown to know and love, Humphrey delivers an entertaining and educational program to be adored by children of all ages.

The program has won Logies for Best Children’s Series and Humphrey has received a number of National Awards and Commendations, including a special “Citizen of the Year” Award at the 1994 Australia Day celebrations.

Humphrey is always joined by a companion who assists and narrates his various adventures in the “magic forest” and brightly coloured tree house.

As West TV grows into a television station supporting programs for all ages, Humphrey is the foundation of a block of children’s programs, which includes ‘The Fairies’ and ‘Jumping Jellybeans’.

“The growing community support West TV is experiencing brings the opportunity to expand our programming lineup and include programs for a wider audience”, explains Tibor Meszaros, General Manager at West TV. With a monthly audience that has continued to grow throughout 2013 – this has proven to be just the right move for West TV.

West Television broadcasts to the entire Perth metropolitan area on channel 44 and streams live online at wtvperth.com.au/watch.

  1. Assuming “Here’s Humphrey” didn’t fall into the Public Domain, allowing anyone to get it for free, also assuming that the community stations must have paid nothing for it, it boggles the mind to try to understand why one of the mainstream networks didn’t grab it. Don’t say there’s no timeslot available on GEM, GO, 7M, 7T, ONE or 11 to replace those endless old series reruns-on-a-loop. Then viewers outside 5 capitals could see it.

  2. I wish other community stations in the major cities would screen this. Or better still, show this instead of all the infomercials on the datacasting channels such as TV4ME, Extra, GOLD, Spree TV, Aspire, etc. this show, along with others such as Romper Room, The Book Place and Mulligrubs bring back memories of my childhood.
