Kylie joins The Voice UK

Kylie joins Tom Jones and will.i.am. as a coach on the upcoming UK series of The Voice.

2013-09-11_2255There’s more than a little bit of payback in Kylie Minogue being announced as a coach on the UK series of The Voice.

For years she was branded the “Singing Budgie” derided for a supposed lack of talent. But sheer hard work paid off and while her success can be attributed to more than just vocals, few can deny her a rightful place in pop history.

The Voice will be her first regular TV talent show role and she joins returning coaches Tom Jones and will.i.am.

“I’m very excited to become a coach on The Voice UK. I love the concept of the show and have been an avid viewer of both series. The search for new talent is such an important aspect of the music industry and The Voice UK gives us all a part to play in that. Will I be competitive? Probably more than even I imagine! Watch this space!” she said.

Mark Linsey, Controller Entertainment Commissioning, BBC, said: “Kylie is a hugely respected figure within the world of music and will be a fantastic addition to The Voice UK. She is a true pop icon and her longevity in the industry is testament to her creative and musical ability.”

The remaining 4th coach is yet to be announced.

  1. Would have been great to have Kylie on the Australian version of The Voice. At least she’s credible and has a proven track record of success in the entertainment industry and would know what she’s talking about from experience. As opposed to the female judge we currently have on our version.
I really hope we get to see the UK version here. Kylie would be fantastic

  2. There will be lots of comparisons as Kylie will be seen as moving in on Dannii’s territory. I have already read this in the UK press. Dannii is very good at it so it will be interesting to see how Kylie goes. When she was helping Dannii on the Xfactor recently she seemed a bit quiet and a little indecisive. I think she will be ok but my only concern is that she may be a little too nice. Maybe she could do it as Charlene.

  3. She was asked to do our version aparently but turned it down, dunno when this was. I wish she hadn’t turned it down, she would have been great and we could lose one of the international judges on our show.

  4. Was Nine ever linked with her to join the The Voice Australia in the first place? It seems we are losing our best talent to UK TV, we always seem to have to import judges!
Britain and Ireland’s Next Top Model is hosted by Elle Macpherson, and when ANTM got renewed we got Jennifer Hawkins to host it (but fair to say, she is relavant to the generation of girls far more than Elle)
And now this… Kylie’s been linked to a Voice AU coaches seat for a long time, ever since it got comissioned by Nine. It would of been appalling if we didn’t even go after her because she is famous not just in Australia but around the world. I’m not saying the current judges are bad anyway.

I really think Nine won’t be doing badly if they put the Voice UK on GO! because of Kylie.

  5. I’ll be finding a way to watch this… I hope Nine don’t show it on their main channel. With The Voice Kids confirmed, another series is just going to dilute the brand.

  6. You might be right Leo. But for every person who thinks that there will someone else who will say they are “milking the concept”. They probably can’t win on this one. Just saying…
