Queer Eye for the Straight Guy reunion

Carson Kressley and co are getting back together for a one-off special, 10 years after they first hit television.

The cast of Queer Eye for the Straight Guy are getting back together for a TV reunion special: Queer Eye Reunion 10 Years Later

Yes it was 2003 when we first me food and wine connoisseur Ted Allen, grooming guru Kyan Douglas, design doctor Thom Filicia, fashion savant Carson Kressley and “culture vulture” Jai Rodriguez.

The series was ground-breaking for the ways that gay men were positively embraced by straight men in primetime. In fact Bravo even gave them “super-hero” status as the “Fab Five.”

At the time there was a pink wave of television shows and characters, but it was Queer Eye and to a lesser extent Queer as Folk that led the charge. TEN even tries a local version, but left it too late. We were sold on Carson & co.

The Block‘s Gav and Waz were also groundbreaking here, at the same time. Now I look at Big Brother and straight men are emotionally attached to Ben, unafraid to hug, kiss, shed tears with him and include him as part of a male group. It’s all inspiring stuff.

There’s no word if the Queer Eye reunion special will air in Australia.

  1. It was a funny show, Carson was clearly the star. Who can forget Carson going through peoples wardrobes and throwing out everything that he felt was inappropriate. The client would usually be left with just a white T shirt or a jacket, but they got a whole new wardrobe so the payoff was of course more than worth it.

  2. Carson is still doing things here and there! He’s a massive equestrian/horse fan and was out here judging fashions for the spring racing carnival and also judged miss america a few years ago.

  3. David, I totally agree about the Big Brother comparison – its so heartening to see such blokey guys like Ed and Mathew totally embrace Ben – even Drew gave Ben a kiss goodnight without a flinch.
