2013-09-10_1100Season six of Sons of Anarchy is back on Showcase this week, just hours after the US.

This season Jimmy Smits is upgraded to a series regular as Neron “Nero” Padilla and there will be two new characters, one described by creator Kurt Sutter as “an old-school shot-caller that’s out of Stockton,” and the other as a major female character who is “in sort of the escort world.”

Sons of Anarchy is an adrenalised drama with darkly comedic undertones that explores a notorious outlaw motorcycle club’s (MC) desire to protect its livelihood while ensuring their simple, sheltered town of Charming, California remains exactly that, charming.

The club, SAMCRO, must confront threats from drug dealers, corporate developers, and overzealous law officers. Behind the MC’s familial lifestyle and legally thriving automotive shop is a ruthless, illegally thriving arms business, and the seduction of money, power and blood.

Charlie Hunnam (who willl soon play Christian Grey in the movie adaption of the raunchy bestseller Fifty Shades of Grey) stars as Jackson ‘Jax’ Teller, a man whose love for the brotherhood is tested by his growing apprehension for its lawlessness. Katey Sagal in her 2011 Golden Globe winning role as Gemma Teller Morrow, Jax’s force-of-nature mother, who along with Ron Perlman as Clarence ‘Clay’ Morrow, Jax’s stepfather and MC president, have their own darker vision for the club.’

When season six starts, Jax continues to push the club into more legitimate businesses, he can’t escape the sins of SAMCRO’s past. Having been framed for the murder of Damon Pope, Clay remains safe in solitary confinement at the SANWA County Jail as Jax and Pope’s successor, August Marks, wait for their opening to move against the former SAMCRO President.

Also in SANWA jail, Tara adjusts surprisingly well to her new surroundings but as her hearing date draws nearer, she continues to push Jax further away. Meanwhile, Lee Toric, a retired U.S. Marshall with a personal grudge against the Sons makes his presence felt as he seeks revenge for the murder of his sister, and Jax and Nero (Jimmy Smits) make the acquaintance of a powerful ally, leading to a potentially profitable business opportunity.

Sons of Anarchy also stars Mark Boone Junior as Robert ‘Bobby’ Munson, Dayton Callie as Chief Wayne Unser, Kim Coates as Alex ‘Tig’ Trager, Tommy Flanagan as Filip ‘Chibs’ Telford, Theo Rossi as Juan Carlos ‘Juice’ Ortiz and Maggie Siff as Tara Knowles.

Sons of Anarchy is created by Kurt Sutter, and Executive Produced by Kurt Sutter, John Linson, Art Linson, Paris Barclay.

Wednesday, September 11 at 4.50pm and 9.30pm on showcase.
