Rumour: TEN to revive Eyewitness News?
Is TEN News about to encourage user-submitted content with mobile phones and social media?

There is speculation TEN News is about to go back to the future by embracing its Eyewitness News brand once again.
The Facebook page for TEN News Perth announced, “It’s 2013 and time for a new kind of news. We’re launching it Monday at 5pm. Join us then!”
But then the reference was deleted.
The trademark TEN Eyewitness News was re-registered with IP Australia on June 26th to cover mobile phone data and social media content, suggesting the revival is set to encourage user-submitted material, possibly involving Zeebox…
Eyewitness News was first adopted by TEN in the mid-1970s.

I think I saw a promo for this during Graham Norton
Come on Ten, don’t mess with the news. Even Media Watch said your news is half decent.
I don’t care what they call the news…as long as Sandra Sully is still on it. 😉
It’s usually their top rating program, sometimes their only program in the Top 20. If it ain’t broke, don’t fiddle with it.
Ten are not going to get more viewers to watch it’s news service just by changing the name back to Eyewitness News.
Bring back Katrina Lee!!!
Just saw the promo for it.
Just saw a TV commercial for it on TEN. Looks like it’s ramping up, and quickly.
TEN News tweeted: Ten’s News is changing, watch this space, and be watching tomorrow at five #TenNews
If this is true, then this will just be another really stupid decision at the end of a really long list of really stupid decisions.
TEN going for lazy journalism:
Get the public to send in stories, and the footage…for free.
Definitely quality there…
Oh gawd, please no. It was a ridiculous brand when they used it in the 80s, it should be left dead and buried.
“Eyewitness News was first adopted by TEN in the mid-1970s” – by…Peter Meakin, who is now …..’consultant to TEN News’.
@Dave
While I agree that they need to take greater care when warning people about risking their lives to get handy-cam footage, truth is that the internet, and more accurately social media… is the future of journalism. Everyone in the industry knows this, even Ten, Nine and Seven.
10 news Sydney often call out for videos or pictures on Facebook. Often it will be for storm and aftermarth pictures. The problem is that they ask for pictures without giving BOM warnings beforehand. This disgusts me. At least 9 news give warnings before asking for pictures. Facebook is becoming a hunting ground for people sending in pictures.
