The BBC has announced the Doctor Who 50th anniversary special will be called ‘The Day of the Doctor.’

2013-09-11_1607The BBC last night announced the upcoming Doctor Who 50th anniversary special will be called ‘The Day of the Doctor’ and released its poster artwork.

The feature-length 75 minute special will star Matt Smith, David Tennant, Jenna Coleman with Billie Piper and John Hurt.

Matt Smith said: “The Day of the Doctor is nearly here! Hope you all enjoy.”

Steven Moffat, lead writer and executive producer, said: “50 years has turned Doctor Who from a television show into a cultural landmark. Personally I can’t wait to see what it becomes after a hundred.”

It airs in the UK in late November which would fall into the final week of TV ratings in Australia, presuming ABC fast-tracks it.

  1. After the how well the ABC went with their 4am broadcast of the New Doctor Special. They might do a (almost) Live Telecast for this?
Then replay it in the evening?

    That would be Great 😉

  2. Thank you David for this story and the other one. Thank you to the ABC for all the many years of Doctor Who. I know I’m a difficult viewer. I do love the ABC as well as television. Even though as I’ve admitted I just can’t handle harassment style advertising. I just wish TV would once again believe in enticement style ads. Where you try to get viewers by convincing them in the ad break that you have something worth watching. It has always worked on me. Leave the facts mainly to before the News and the EPG.

I know, probably wishful thinking that TV would understand if someone feels comfortable during a show including the credits that they might try to watch a channel as much as possible. Because it is a comfortable place. Sorry to be annoying about this. But I would love that as a viewer.

  3. I think it’s a safe bet the ABC will fast track this…I hope! 😉
Such a shame Chris Ecclestone doesn’t want anything to do with Who…He should be involved as well.
