The Walking Dead coming to SBS

SBS 2 turns to supernatural and sci-fi with Lost Girl and Black Mirror also joining the Tuesday line-up.

2013-09-03_1108Acclaimed US zombie series The Walking Dead will screen on SBS 2 from November, as part of a broader Tuesday night plan for sci-fi and supernatural dramas.

Next week SBS 2 premieres the 3 part zombie series In the Flesh, followed by Lost Girl and the second series of Black Mirror.

Director of Television and Online Content Tony Iffland said: “I am thrilled to able to add The Walking Dead to an already strong list of hugely successful international drama series slated for SBS 2.

“Edgy, provocative drama is an important part of the SBS 2 line-up and we’re pleased to become the free-to-air home of these high quality zombie, science fiction and supernatural series that are already so popular with younger audiences.”

The Walking Dead will screen from series one and follows the story of Sherriff Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) who wakes to discover an epidemic of apocalyptic proportions has causing the dead to rise and feed on the living.

Meanwhile UK zombie series In The Flesh, which explores a post-zombie-uprising from the zombie’s perspective, begins Tuesday September 10 at 8.40pm.

Canadian fantasy-noir series Lost Girl follows from Tuesday October 1st at 8.40pm. The series follows “the supernatural seductress Bo (Anna Silk) who, after her first sexual encounter, discovers she is far from normal and one of the Fae – legendary creatures that pass as humans while secretly feeding off them. Seeking to solve the mystery of her origin, Bo becomes entangled in a passionate love triangle with a shape-shifting Fae homicide detective (Kris Holden-Reid) and a human doctor who may be able to help her (Zoie Palmer).”

SBS 2 will also have the free-to-air premiere of Charlie Brooker’s very twisted anthology Black Mirror from Tuesday October 8 at 9.30pm.

  1. Seems SBS2 have bought so much new content that some of it is ending up on SBS One. I switched over to the first episode of The Jeselnik Offensive last night & had to double check the watermark.

Can’t wait to check out The Walking Dead for the first time though!

  2. GO!!!! used to have a good Sci-Fi night, showing Fringe and the like. I have given up hope they will ever show it. Maybe SBS will?? I’m looking forward to their S=Sci-Fi night.

  3. Wow SBS2 getting The Walking Dead and Lost Girl has them with 2 of the best sci-fi series around (with Lost Girl being SF’s highest rated program as well as involved in setting U.S. and Canadian rating records).
