Who will play Johnny Carson in NBC miniseries?

NBC is developing a miniseries about the life of US talk show host Johnny Carson. But who will play the plum role?

2013-09-20_1544Steve Carell, Kevin Spacey, John Slattery, Justin Timberlake, Mike Myers, Dana Carey, Jim Carrey, John Cusack, Keifer Sutherland, Sam Rockwell…

They’re already being mentioned in the same paragraphs as stories on a new NBC miniseries about the life of US talk show host Johnny Carson.

Based on an upcoming biography Carson the Magnificent: An Intimate Portrait by Bill Zehme, the drama will cover Carson’s three-decade run hosting The Tonight Show from 1962 to 1992, and will include his childhood in Nebraska, his life outside the limelight and friendships made during his career.

Zehme will executive produce the project with John Davies (A Comedy Salute to Andy Kaufman).

Casting is yet to be announced.

We’ve already had a Graham Kennedy bio in Australia, but who else from Aussie TV would be the basis of a good drama?

  1. I just hope they cast someone who can do a slightly dramatic/tragic performance if Johnny is the focus of the miniseries. I’m just remembering Rich Little’s portrayal of Johnny in ‘The Late Shift’ which, honest as it was, still looked like Rich Little doing an impersonation of Johnny Carson.
