Ab Fab movie: yes, no, maybe.

Will there ever be an Absolutely Fabulous film? Yes. No. Depends what you read.

In 2011 Saunders confirmed a film would shoot on the French Riviera.

“Yes, I’m definitely going to do it,” she said. “I’m aiming to shoot this in a beautiful part of the Riviera. I fancy the south of France in the spring.”

In an interview this week she told Glamour magazine, “It’ll never happen.

“We’ve been talking about it for so long and now I’ve just got this feeling that Ab Fab is in such a nice place now – if we made the film there would be such a danger that we could ruin it.”

But she also told BBC Radio 4 this week:

“Everyone keeps going, ‘Oh why don’t you do a film? Why don’t you do some more?’And you keep thinking, ‘Because the expectation is so high!’

“You think ‘Well we could really mess it up’. And so, why mess up something that is actually still perceived as being quite good?”

But, with her diary currently clear for 2014, Saunders said the film was looking more likely than ever.

“I’ll do something, I’ve got some little pet projects that I keep tinkering away with.

“One of them might be the Ab Fab film, I don’t know. As we’re going into winter, a nice little summertime film seems rather attractive.”
