2013-10-30_0036Next month ABC TV will screen the Doctor Who 50th anniversary special “An Adventure in Space and Time,” immediately following the primetime screening of “The Day of the Doctor.”

It will air at Sunday November 24 at 8.45pm on ABC1 following “The Day of the Doctor” at 7:30pm.

The historic special stars David Bradley as William Hartnell; Jessica Raine as Verity Lambert; Brian Cox as Sydney Newman and Sacha Dhawan as Waris Hussein. It is written by Mark Gatiss, Executive produced by Mark Gatiss, Steven Moffat and Caroline Skinner.

This special one-off drama travels back in time to 1963 to see how the beloved “Doctor Who” was first brought to the screen. Actor William Hartnell felt trapped by a succession of hard-man roles. Wannabe producer Verity Lambert was frustrated by the TV industry’s glass ceiling. Both of them were to find unlikely hope and unexpected challenges in the form of a Saturday tea-time drama, time travel and monsters! Allied with a team of brilliant people, they went on to create the longest running science fiction series ever, now celebrating its 50th anniversary.

“The Day of the Doctor” will also have an early morning screening as part of a ‘global simulcast’ at a time yet to be announced.

  1. Interesting. I like it. Thank you for the news as well as to the ABC. Kind of a weird coincidence that the anniversary airing turns out to be on a Sunday. Because it could of been any day. Also for Britain it being Saturday. The usual day of Doctor Who. Of course they could of just aired it on the week of instead if it hadn’t been then. Just thought I’d mention it…

  2. I was wondering where you found such a high quality production photo of William Hartnell, but then squinted and realised it was David Bradley. Looks like it will be a big Who day on Nov 24!
