Hollywood tough guy Vinnie Jones (Lock, Stock & Two Smoking Barrels, Swordfish, X-Men, Chuck, Elementary and Psych) has a series coming up for NatGeo in which he travels through Russia alongside some of the country’s most dangerous professions in the harshest conditions.
As a former footballer turned Hollywood strong-arm, Vinnie Jones is no stranger to serious roughhousing and fierce competition. But, he is up against his hardest challenge yet, as he goes head-to-head with men whose fearsome reputations enable them to handle some of the toughest jobs in Russia. Working in dangerous conditions in some of the harshest terrain on the planet, Vinnie must prove his mettle with men whose day jobs include facing off against apex predators, protecting Russia’s elite from kidnapping and extortion, and scaling structures hundreds of metres high without a harness.
Premiering Tuesday October 15 at 9.30pm AEDT on National Geographic Channel, the six-part series Vinnie Jones: Russia’s Toughest leads Vinnie on back-breaking treks across Russia’s Arctic tundra, vast plains and frigid oceans, as he gets a down and dirty lesson in some of the country’s most dangerous professions. Working alongside railmen, cowboys and bodyguards, Vinnie endures long hours, sub-zero temperatures, wild lands and gruelling work with men more inclined to crack heads than smiles. Known for his illustrious football career, Vinnie has also made a name for himself on the big screen, starring in Hollywood blockbusters like Lock, Stock & Two Smoking Barrels, Snatch, Gone in Sixty Seconds, Swordfish, X-Men and Escape Plan. In addition, he has starred in major television shows including Chuck, Elementary and Psych.
In Kamchatka, criminal poaching gangs have cashed in on the massive population of brown bears and red salmon. Vinnie Jones teams up with poaching squad specialists as they put their lives on the line, going up against vicious gangs of armed poachers. Vinnie and the river police are on the frontlines to protect the region’s precious salmon population. This million dollar business has kept thousands of salmon from returning to the ocean each year. Armed poachers are not the only thing that they have to fear though; the region’s brown bears, which they have sworn to protect, can pose a danger to the most well-meaning squad members. They must be especially careful protecting these bears, which are killed for their fur, paws and gallbladder.
