AWGIE Awards 2013: winners

Rake, A Moody Christmas, Please Like Me and Underground: The Julian Assange Story all win at the AWGIEs.

Alex+Williams+as+Julian+Assange+(2)ABC titles dominated the Television winners at the 46th Annual AWGIE Awards, hosted by Sammy J at the Plaza Ballroom, Melbourne last night.

Winners included Rake, A Moody Christmas, Please Like Me, Dance Academy, Figaro Pho and Guess How Much I Love You.

Underground: The Julian Assange Story and Underbelly: Badness were also awarded while the Good News Week writing team received a ninth AWGIE for their final season.

The $25,000 Foxtel Fellowship awarded in recognition of body of work in Television went to Jacquelin Perske (The Secret Life of Us, Love My Way, Spirited and Little Fish).

In other awards Kim Mordaunt picked up best Feature Film: Screenplay Original for The Rocket, and Feature Film: Adaptation went to Cate Shortland with Robin Mukherjee for Lore. Playwright Alana Valentine won the Major AWGIE Award for Most Outstanding Script of 2013 and the inaugural David Williamson Prize. Director Neil Armfield won The Dorothy Crawford Award for outstanding contribution the profession.

The AWGIEs are the only awards judged on the basis of the script – the writer’s own vision.

  1. Congrats to all the winners. Next year should have some more excellent contenders, with local telly production narratives in both comedy and drama plentiful. Well done to Ian Simmons and his team for what must be a record number of wins!
