CBS conjures up Charmed reimagining

Horror and fantasy are hot right now, so CBS looks to its past for the future.

2013-10-27_0039The remakes keep on coming.

Hot on the heels on NBC’s plans to remake Murder, She Wrote, now CBS wants to conjure up another Charmed.

Horror and fantasy are hot right now on TV: The Walking Dead, American Horror Story, Witches of East End, Once Upon a Time, Grimm, True Blood, The Vampire Diaries are all recent examples.

Party of Five co-creator Chris Keyser and partner Sydney Sidner are co-writing the project, which is described as a “re-imagining” of the original series about a sisterhood of witches who use their powers for good.

CBS TV Studios, which has the rights to all of the Aaron Spelling library, is producing the project alongside the Tannenbaum Company. It’s still very early in the development process: CBS has only ordered a script for a pilot, and it hasn’t committed to filming anything.

Starring Alyssa Milano, Rose McGowan, Holly Marie Combs, and, for a while, Shannen Doherty, Charmed ran for eight seasons and 178 episodes.

If the remake comes to pass this would also make Charmed the first drama to have been both axed and revived during the lifetime of this blog.

  1. No, leave it alone! I thought that was what Witches Of East End was anyway … an attempt to recapture the magic of Charmed!
I am also surprised Witches Of East End is surviving after the failure of Witches Of Eastwick… but I guess this new one has more directions it can go in.

  2. In that photo david Alysa has star power she knows how to work it and she is smart, love her acting to. Holly’s great aswell i agree only one Piper Halliwel. If they do a Next Generation that would make sense say start it from high school or college maybe they can get Kelly Cuoco to do cameos as well as Alyssa and Holly, not sure about Rose, she has not done much since Charmed days, as for Shannon i know she wont be back because of that spat she had with Alyssa sort of life immitating art or sorts back then. Plus its too soon, CBS just desperate, with all the other shows on cable which have surparsed Charmed in the storytelling aspect. Networks get in the way too much where as cable does not.

  3. Like a few have said, I don’t mind remakes if they’re done properly.

I really hope Alyssa, Shannen, Rose & Holly make cameos of some sort.

Perhaps all four sisters will be introduced from the get go? Power of Four haha.

I wonder if they’ll use the same Halliwell Manor?

the original series ended one season short of 200 episodes! I wonder if this remake will go the full hog? 😀

  4. it would be awesome if this new cast would blend in with the old as i guy i only watched it because of rose, holly,Alyssa but these days the only ones who are still good looking is Alyssa & holly after rose was in a massive car crash some year ago she had all facial reconstruction to her face & it was a bad job she’s not that great anymore when she was in the charmed days

  5. Loved the original show and would watch this, but it has to be connected to the original series and focus on the new generation of the Halliwell family that was set in the series finale rather then a reboot with new actors playing the original characters (let’s face Holly Marie Combs will always been the one and only Piper Halliwell in my opinion)

  6. Charmed was great but why do networks have to continue to do remakes of shows. Some work but most of them don’t. They need to come up with their own ideas instead of rehashing old ones.

  7. This is great news! I love Charmed. But I would prefer a reunion with the original cast (including Shannen) for a TV movie. No one will play Piper better than Holly Marie Combs.

  8. Two minds about this. I suprised myself by enjoying this show during the original run in the USA with the exception that the final year was a little lame. Milano, McGowan and Combs seemed to gell well as sisters/witches and will be a hard act to follow.

Technically it is not a revival as such since as you say it would be a remake.

This means that it would not be a continuation of the previous Charmed as it is completely new one with a blank canvas to draw on.
