Gruen could prove to be curious tomorrow night for Russel Howcroft, when it questions “Woolworfs” aligning itself with Jamie Oliver.
Oliver is an established TEN brand and “Woolworfs” sponsors Recipe to Riches.
On Gruen Planet this week, Coca-Cola enters the Obesity War. We ask, what kind of responsibilities do brands have to the community? Wouldn’t Coke be smarter to acknowledge it’s an unhealthy, sugar-laden beverage that people love? And then stay out of a health debate it can’t win? And what does a can of fat taste like anyway?
We also visit Woolworfs, Jamie Oliver’s new pals. What are the risks and rewards of a supermarket aligning itself with an outspoken fresh food campaigner? Supermarkets sell fresh food, but they also sell aisle after aisle of often unhealthy, processed foods.
Join Wil Anderson and regular key panellists Todd Sampson and Russel Howcroft as they run the Gruen Planet scanner across the biggest news stories of the week, at home and abroad, pinpointing exactly where the truth stops and the spin, branding and image control begin.
This week’s guest panellists:
Carolyn Miller – communications strategist
Adam Ferrier – consumer psychologist
Wednesday October 15 at 8.30pm on ABC1.

They seemed to be editing Russel Howcroft out last night when Adam Ferrier was banging on about all Coles have is the big red hand and this will be great for Woolworths. Of course Coles is the one sponsoring Masterchef on TEN, using it as a buy the ingredients from MC at Coles (with Curtis Stone behind it) and I am certain Russel looked like he had more to say and we didn’t get to see it.
No complaints from me, David. I watched the episode and understood the reference to “Woolworfs” in this article.
David – Quick Spell check it is Woolworths not “Woolworfs”
There’s a reason it is in inverted commas. Send all complaints to Gruen not me…..
Jamie Oliver had a lengthy business/promotional relationship with UK foodstore chain Sainsburys for many years. It was hugely successful for both parties
