New NITV Commissioning Award

NITV announces a new $30,000 funding award to support the Indigenous production sector.

2013-10-09_1102A new NITV Commissioning Award, Spirit of NITV and inaugural winner, will provide $30,000 in funding to support the Indigenous production sector.

The first recipient was announced last night at the 15th Annual Remote Indigenous Media Festival held at the historic community of Ntaria (Hermmansburg), Northern Territory.

The inaugural recipient is Pintubi Anmatjere Warlpiri (PAW) Media for their submission; First Contact, directed and animated by Maxwell Japanangka Tasman, Jason Japaljarri Woods and Shane Jupurrurla White.

Tanya Denning (pictured), NITV Channel Manager said; “We are thrilled to have introduced Spirit of NITV to the awards ceremony and congratulate PAW on taking out the inaugural award with their submission, First Contact.”

“Indigenous producers are in touch with significant community stories and this award is a way for NITV to directly support the remote Indigenous production sector while also delivering national broadcast outcomes.”

“We are honoured to be a part of developing indigenous storytelling and the introduction of Spirit of NITV recognises the Remote Indigenous Media Organisations contribution to that end.”

Along with the $30,000 pre-sale component of the award, PAW will have the opportunity to develop their project with experienced film makers at NITV, and broadcast the final 30 minute documentary nationally on the channel.
