On Sunday night 60 Minutes will screen the final interview by Mark “Chopper” Read and the promo touts ‘death-bed’ confessions involving 4 unsolved murders.
“I shot him in the eye, yeah…” he admits.
“I killed him this time, with his gun, that’s how stupid he is,” he laughs.
Read, who spent more than 23 years in jail for crimes including armed robbery, assault and kidnapping, died of liver cancer on October 9th aged 58.
Nine’s 60 Minutes Facebook page is already attracting comments debating everything from “glorifying criminals” to Read “cleaning up his act.”
But questions may emerge about whether Nine passed on information to authorities prior to Read’s death.
Tom Malone, Executive Producer 60 Minutes, said in a statement to TV Tonight, “The interview with Chopper was recorded 3 weeks ago.
“At all times during the production of this story we have obtained internal and external legal advice. We were still checking the veracity of Chopper’s confessions when he passed away last week, much sooner than we had expected.
“Since then we have expedited the story. Last week 60 Minutes contacted senior Victorian Police twice by telephone. We made written submissions to Victorian Police this morning (Monday).”

@camo2 – Duh, of course I heard about them. Thats my whole point … or could you not work that simple fact out.
None of them should have made made.. Geez
Never watched the movie or listened to any of the radio shows.
When I saw the promo I wondered if Sixty did a deal with Chopper to say they wouldn’t air his interview till after he died because of the murder confessions.
oh please glorifying him now? @martymonster the horse has truly bolted on this… did you hear about the movie Chopper? That was about him… did you hear him on numerous radio shows, and recently in a prominent national afternoon radio drive show?? C’mon he is no more glorified in this interview than he has been in his last 10years… this is just my opinion… but is it more to do he is Channel 9 and not any other channel?
They should play the Chopper comedy skits done by Fast Forward as well
One question.
Why?
I mean, why glorify this guy, he should just be forgotten about.
He looks like Graeme Blundell in that picture.
