2013-10-15_2202Acclaimed zombie series The Walking Dead has been (unsurprisingly) renewed for a fifth season.

The show has enjoyed record ratings for AMC. The Season Four premiere drew 16.1 million viewers in the US.

“We are very happy to make what has to be one of the most anti-climactic renewal announcements ever: The Walking Dead is renewed for a fifth season,” AMC president Charlie Collier said.

“This is a show that has erased traditional distinctions between cable and broadcast. Its expanding base of passionate fans has grown every season, most recently — and most notably — with the season-four premiere earlier this month, which broke viewership records for the series and became the biggest nonsports telecast in cable history. On behalf of the incredible team on both sides of the camera, thank you to the fans and here’s to more Dead.”

Newly installed showrunner Scott M. Gimple will remain for the next season but there is no confirmation yet on how many episodes will be produced.

FX is fast-tracking the fourth season for Australian audiences and SBS will “slow-track” Season One soon.

  1. This season has been brilliant. I’m such a sad obsessive that I watched episode 3 four times over a 12 hour period earlier in the week! Love it and the bomb that Carol dropped at the end was such a shock. Great show – oh, and yay Daryl Dixon you sexy redneck ;). Actually adore all the main characters, they are all so distinct and strong in their own unique ways.

  2. so far this season has been good – theyve moved the focus full time to the human drama side and have tightened up the writing, plots and characters

good work on this season so far! Hopefully we get to see Carl getting some more responsibility
