TEN in hunt for The Hit

Looks like TEN is close to securing talent show The Hit, with competing songwriters.

2013-10-06_0122Last May, TV Tonight told you there were whispers TEN was eyeing a new music talent show The Hit, in which emerging songwriters compete for recording artists to choose their song to record.

Brian McFadden appeared in the Irish series, which aired last year.

Today the Sunday Telegraph confirms TEN programming chief Beverley McGarvey, currently attending MIPCOM in France, has her eye on the series.

TEN has already confirmed the return of So You Think You Can Dance for 2014.

  1. No way bev will go for this one, the format that are interesting this market are rising star and mentor. Trouble is both have huge holes in the formats. Rising star is a gimick that last a couple of weeks and mentor is unbookable.

Ten would be better to take deep breath and stay away from these dodgy formats.

  2. MIPCOM, the Program Manager/Director/etc., etc., junket to pick up DVDs and kits that have been sent to them in the mail or via the Internet. How many went from 10, 9 and 7 this year?
@Chris B – Na, Beverley says she’ll kill to get “My Kitchen Karaoke Renovation Rules”.

  3. Sounds alright, and only 1hr a week, hardly a huge commitment if it flops.
I guess it isn’t really a singing contest, it’s a writing contest with the songs being performed by well known artists. Having two well known artists each week could help the series.
I wonder who will participate? I can’t imagine any huge artists… maybe Ricki-Lee, Samantha Jade, Guy Sebastion (all singing competition alumni lol).

  4. Apparently combined singing/cooking formats are huge at MIP. These include ‘Karaoke Kitchen’, and another that’s very cleverly titled ‘Kitchen Karaoke’. But the pick might be the blockbuster where former reality contestants, who have fallen on hard times and been totally forgotten, get the chance for 3 minutes of redemption and a good meal in ‘Sing For Your Supper’.

  5. Seriously? Idol would be better than this. However we don’t need any more singing contests here. We have The Voice and The X Factor plus we do get singers on Australia’s Got Talent. We really don’t need any more right now. What we need is a point of difference reality show that we haven’t seen yet. What that is i don’t know but recycled ideas and singing contests i don’t think is the way to go.

  6. Really… I don’t believe it? The Hit has been bouncing around for a while now. Was really only a so-so performer in Ireland… and has failed to gain traction anywhere else. The format has so many holes in it, I can’t see Ten really taking a punt.
