The Blacklist wins full season

The Blacklist has won a 'back-nine' approval from NBC, extending from its 13 episode order to a full season of 22.

2013-10-06_0038US drama The Blacklist has won a ‘back-nine’ approval from NBC, extending from its 13 episode order to a full season of 22.

“The many layers of Red Reddington and his mysterious reasons for getting into bed with the FBI seem to be fascinating to fans of this show,” said Jennifer Salke, president of NBC Entertainment. “With great talent like James Spader and Megan Boone on board, as well our stellar executive producers and the whole cast and crew, we believe this outstanding series will continue to make NBC a big destination on Monday nights.”

The Blacklist has averaged 12 million US viewers in its first two airings, making it the No. 1 new drama among the Big Four networks in total viewers thus far this season.

This follows on the heels of FOX’s early renewal of Sleepy Hollow and The Simpsons, as well as ABC’s cancellation of Lucky 7.

Last week on Seven, The Blacklist pulled an impressive 1.6m viewers for its premiere.

  1. How will Seven handle this come February? I can’t see Revenge being bumped from Mondays, so perhaps The Blacklist will move to Tuesdays against NCIS (but with a 1.5m+ lead from MKR).

I’m desperately hoping Seven doesn’t decide to hold off the second part of the season till after Revenge (though I suppose it could make sense for them to flow straight into season 2 at the back end of next year).

Just about every network show gets an order for 13 episodes with an option to extend it by 9+ episodes to make a full season if it is successful.

Usually second and subsequent season orders are for full seasons of 22+ episodes.

FOX has started doing 13 episode seasons, so Sleepy Hollow was picked up straight away for 13 eps next season.

  3. Great news. Glad it has been given a full season order. James Spader is amazing in this and its really one of the standout dramas of the new season so far. In fact there are plenty of great new dramas including Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Sleepy Hollow and Under the Dome.
