Upcoming TEN drama, Secrets & Lies, gets US adaptation.

It hasn't even premiered here but TEN's new crime series is getting a straight-to-series adaptation by ABC (USA).

2013-10-25_1011Just when TEN needs some good news here it is: in the form of a US adaptation for its drama series, Secrets and Lies, which hasn’t even premiered here yet.

The crime drama, starring Martin Henderson, is even skipping the Pilot process and going straight to series for ABC (US). The network has ordered 10 episodes from Kapital Entertainment and Brisbane-based Hoodlum Entertainment.

Secrets and Lies is a six part series in which a family man discovers the body of a young boy, but becomes the prime suspect in the case. It also stars Anthony Hayes, Diana Glenn, Adrienne Pickering and Philippa Coulthard.

Secrets and Lies is hoped to become an on-going crime franchise, likely to revolve around Anthony Hayes’ character as a detective. It also has multi-platform elements which will be pushed through zeebox.

US networks don’t often skip the Pilot process although there are more projects emerging this year that are doing just that.

Casting and a showrunner search are now underway in the US.

TEN won’t be premiering the local series until next year, despite it originally being on their list for 2013. But this certainly is an encouraging sign and just what the network needs.

  1. @Benji77 – I agree, if TEN had 4 x 13 episode series and ran them on Weds permanently it would make for the 52 weeks of a year of different content.

Even if you consider Mr and Mrs Murder this year it was pulling in 400-500,000 in Ratings, while at 9:30pm The Good Wife was pulling in 300-400,000, there seems to be a want for Aust Drama right now.
