2013-10-01_1457Former media executive Ian Law, who was once CEO of PBL Media, has died following a battle with cancer.

The Australian reports he died yesterday morning.

Law was appointed head of PBL Media in 2007, the predecessor to Nine Entertainment Co., having previously been chief executive of ACP Magazines.  David Gyngell became CEO in 2010 before it was renamed.

Law was also on the CarSales board as an independent director.

Carsales’s managing director Greg Roebuck said, “He was incredibly knowledgeable, supportive and able to deal with issues with wonderful empathy and humour. His passion for the business was always evident and he was a major contributor to the success the business enjoys.”

Law was CEO of PBL Media when Nine launched its first multichannel, GO!

“The launch of GO! is an important step in the evolution of free television in Australia. It means a significant increase in the choice available to viewers and advertisers on free to air television. We think the proposed schedule for GO! is exciting and as a Network we are focussing very much on having two channels with distinctly different content,” he said at the time.
