30 Rock in primetime

For years people have been asking, "Why don't they put 30 Rock onto an earlier timeslot?"

Finally they will get their wish -thanks to SBS 2 from Monday.

30 Rock, one of the most critically acclaimed comedy series of the last decade – having received 90 Emmy nominations since its debut – is coming to SBS 2, giving audiences the chance to go back to where it all started for Liz Lemon.

From Emmy and two-time Golden Globe winner Tina Fey, this multiple-award winning offbeat satirical comedy series goes behind the scenes of popular fictional variety show ‘TGS with Tracy Jordan’. Fey plays producer Liz Lemon, who constantly has her hands full juggling new boss, top network executive Jack Donaghy (Alec Baldwin), and the unpredictable star of the show, Tracy Jordan (Tracy Morgan), all the while attempting to salvage her own personal life.

Episode One – Pilot
In the premiere episode, single comedy writer Liz Lemon is living every comedy writer’s dream – head writer on a demanding, live TV variety program in New York City, which stars one of her closest friends, the sweet, but self-absorbed Jenna Maroney (Jane Krakowski). But her world is turned upside down when brash new network executive Jack Donaghy interferes with her show and staff, and bullies Lemon into convincing Tracy Jordan, a wild and unpredictable movie star, to join the cast.

Monday, 11 November at 7.05pm on SBS 2

  1. The first block of eps are pretty average.

The shows was pitched about people making TV show. NBC insisted it be a sketch comedy show to cash in on Fay’s work on Saturday Night Live.

The sketch comedy thing was always the weakest bit. It took them a while to get the idea of a sitcom about characters who work on a sketch show firing. After that is was brilliant.

Would likely be cancelled after 3 episodes now though.

  2. Seven’s treatment of 30 Rock (and other similar shows) has been abysmal. I used to watch it on 7 because at least it usually started about the advertised time but drifted away a couple of years ago when I was given the current series.

However, I’m happy to support SBS2 with this and the earlier series were def the best and worth seeing again. SBS2 is rapidly turning into a regular channel for me, think I watch it even more than ABC2. Certainly watch it more now than the commercial channels.

  3. Same timeslot that SBS2 have recently been showing Parks and Recreation, and I think Community before that. Of course no one will watch on SBS2 (well not in commercial terms) which the programming geniuses at Ch7 will take as justification not to give it a prime time slot.

Seems that Ch7 have probably only on sold the first few seasons to SBS, so don’t hold your breath to see the latter series. Like most fans I bought the DVD for the last season months ago so I didn’t have to put up with 7’s pathetic treatment of this show.

  4. PS – only 2 eps now left (tonight and next Wed). 7’s scheduling of the last season has been pretty ordinary (and that’s when it ran on time) so hopefully SBS give it a better run.

  5. Fantastic! Hopefully it will pick up some more fans in a better timeslot. I always hated how Kochie would refer to it as “Our very own 30 Rock” when they would report it won yet another Emmy Award – they can’t have liked it that much if they were airing it at 11:30pm!
