Cosentino wins Dancing with the Stars

Illusionist Cosentino has won this year's Dancing with the Stars, defeating Rhiannon Fish & Tina Arena.

Cos & Jess Winners-3Illusionist Cosentino has won this year’s Dancing with the Stars championship.

He defeated Home and Away‘s Rhiannon Fish after Tina Arena was eliminated earlier.

“To be in the top three is unbelievable and to be in this position is phenomenal,” he said.

The win followed Cosentino finding a new professional dance partner in episode two after Jessica Raffa sustained a serious back injury. “We look like we gel so much on the dance floor, because we do in real life. It’s been an honor to dance with him everyday,” she said.

The finalists competed in three rounds of dancing including a redemption dance, sudden death Cha Cha and a final Freestyle. Conspiracy theorists will note the final went down to two Channel Seven personalities vying for the title.

But this season has been notable for some surprisingly strong dance talent, despite being Seven’s 13th season.

Judges scores:
Tina Arena & Damian Whitewood 38 (Tango) + 36 (Cha Cha face off) = 74
Cosentino & Jessica Raffa 34 (Samba) + 31 (Cha Cha face off) + 39 (Freestyle) = 104
Rhiannon Fish & Aric Yegudkin 35 (Viennese Waltz) + 32 (Cha Cha face off) + 36 (Freestyle) = 103

  1. I thought the judges’ reaction to Tina being eliminated was disgraceful and very unprofessional. It must have been very hurtful to Rhiannon to see that reaction from the judges when she went through to the final two. They are meant to be impartial and unbiased – yeah, right *eye roll*. Then, to make it worse, Todd critiques Cosentino’s final dance by telling him that Tina should have been in the final two. Way to make Cos and Rhiannon feel like undeserving crap!! Unbelievable rudeness, in my opinion, I hope he is taken to task by producers for that remark, it was awful.

  2. I was disappointed that Tina did not win she really did improve so much over the series, but obviously didn’t have the viewer votes. Cos is not a Channel seven ‘star’ he may have had a kick start from them with AGT but he is an entertainer in his own rights and does not rely on 7 for anything, but is very popular with his Australia wide performances at present, and as he is in the public eye for that, people will vote for him, whereas Tina has only just returned to Australia after living in France for so many years so has not had as much publicity, however she was superb. The best series for a long, long time and great judges. Looking forward to next year. .

  3. Its funny how people say that Cos shouldnt have won either Rhiannon or Tina should have won. It all came down to the public vote and he has obviously got a big fan base.

As soon as he got through I thought he must have won. But the looks on the judges faces when Tina went was priceless. Actually I must admit i thought Tina may have struggled to get the public vote but she did so well. Any of those 3 deserved to win.

Rhiannon was consistent from the very 1st show, Cos was also good and Tina was just awesome.

But Im also happy for Jess. This is her 5th series and has never won it and also its a nice reward for her after that terrible back injury.

I just hope all 4 judges come back next year. .

  4. I too was flabbergasted Tina was eliminated, and that Cosentino beat Rhiannon. He must have a vastly bigger fan base than I thought. Congrats to Cos and Jess though.

It’s certainly been an outstanding season. I agree with wat Todd said about the whole series have a really nice vibe about it. No big dramas or scandals needed to fuel publicity – just good, entertaining dancing.

  5. Yay Cosentino and Jess, the best couple won, though Rhiannon and Aric were also outstanding, it could have gone either way!! The most talented of the dancers made it to the final two, Rhiannon and Cos were the most consistent from week one. Tina was also a great dancer, but she simply did not have the viewer support when it mattered the most as she was well ahead of Cos on points last night, but once viewer votes were added, Cos must have swamped her. As for the conspiracy theories that the show is rigged to favour Channel 7 talent – please. Most of the contestants are Channel 7 stars as the other networks would never allow their talent to compete on the show, so 7 have to draw most of the contestants from their stable

  6. My mouth hit the floor when Tina was eliminated. That was a huge huge shock and what shocked me even more was that Cosentino won. I mean good on him and his fans for getting him over the line but the 2 best dancers of the series ended 2nd and 3rd. I would have loved to see Tina win it. Her freestyle was hands down the best out of the 3. All in all it was one of the best seasons of DWTS ever and to think that Seven nearly didn’t air it this year.

  7. Agreed. Tina should have won but she doesn’t have the voting power and exposure amongst tv viewers. That is why the “tv celebrities” always seem to win this competition. It’s not so much about ability, but who has the most votes. Rhiannon and Consentino both have tv shows on the air, so it is plausible that they will attract more voting calls, given their greater presence on-air. Tina was wonderful, and should have won. But I guess this proves the voting is not rigged.

  8. Really… This became very awkward once Tina Arena was eliminated. Everyone there knew and felt she should have won… The entire setup was there for the best television moment of the year – so much emotion and skill. After that final freestyle that left many on tears, it just all seemed off after that.
But… The positive out of this… Obvious that the show isn’t rigged because having Arena win the show would have been the best outcome for the network every though she’s not an employee.
