Jacki Weaver has been cast in the US adaptation of Broadchurch, now titled Gracepoint.
She will play the role of the Susan Wright, the mysterious cleaning woman who is new in town and has a dark history.
She will join David Tennant and Breaking Bad‘s Anna Gunn who play the drama’s detectives.
The eight-part series about a death of a child in a sleepy seaside town is being adapted by In Treatment’s Dan Futterman and Anya Epstein,
Gracepoint is scheduled to begin filming in January for broadcast during the 2014-2015 US season.

This role is a great win for her. It builds into a important part in the later episodes.
Given the cast they are putting together I am more encouraged to watch this.
I know this is being made for the US market, as the ratings for the broadcaster will be a lot higher than the original series on BBC America, but international sales won’t be high as anyone who has seen the original will know who dunnit. I’d be keen to watch it if they changed the killer.
Moments like this makes me proud to be an Aussie.
